Argentina vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina, World Cup 2014: Lineups

Ronald Martinez

Argentina have switched to a back three ahead of their World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has sprung a surprise by switching his side to a back three ahead of their World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday.

Gonzalo Higuaín has dropped to the bench to make way for third center-back Hugo Campagnaro, leaving Marcos Rojo and Pablo Zabaleta free to operate as wing-backs. Maxi Rodríguez has taken Fernando Gago's spot in the midfield trio.

Bosnia have stuck with the 4-2-3-1 most expected them to use, though deep-lying playmaker Haris Medunjanin is left out to make way for attacking midfielder Zvjezdan Misimović, meaning we'll probably see Miralem Pjanić dictating play from the midfield pivot alongside the more defensively-minded Muhamed Bešić.

Argentina starting lineup (3-5-2): Sergio Romero; Federico Fernández, Ezequiel Garay, Hugo Campagnaro; Marcos Rojo, Ángel di María, Javier Mascherano, Maxi Rodríguez, Pablo Zabaleta; Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero.

Bosnia and Herzegovina starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Asmir Begović; Sead Kolašinac, Emir Spahić, Ermin Bičakčić, Mensur Mujdža; Miralem Pjanić, Muhamed Bešić; Senad Lulić, Zvjezdan Misimović, Izet Hajrović; Edin Džeko.
