Matt Besler off injured for the United States

Besler was the second US player forced out of the game with a hamstring injury.

SB Nation's 2014 World Cup Bracket'

United States central defender Matt Besler was forced out of the match against Ghana at halftime with a hamstring injury.

Besler's injury occurred around the 40th minute after he made a sprint to clear the ball out for a throw. The defender grabbed his hamstring momentarily and was able to walk off any discomfort, or at least enough to allow him to finish the first half.

After an extended examination by the medical team during halftime, Besler was removed from the match to avoid any further damage to the muscle. John Anthony Brooks replaced him in the lineup at the start of the second half. If Besler is forced to miss extended time, it would leave Jürgen Klinsmann with just three center backs.

The 27-year-old defender is appearing in his first World Cup, having played his entire professional career with Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer.

Jozy Altidore also suffered a hamstring injury midway through the first half and was unable to continue playing.
