Clint Dempsey suffered a "nasal fracture" during Monday's United States match against Ghana at the World Cup. The good news is that the injury is not expected to keep him out of Sunday's match against Portugal:
Clint Dempsey with "nasal fracture" per US Soccer. Won't affect ability to play c Portugal. Use of mask is undecided— Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) June 17, 2014
Dempsey suffered he injury late in the first half when he was accidentally kicked in the face by Ghana defender John Boye:
He told reporters after the match that he had some trouble breathing during the second half, and that he was spitting up blood throughout the half. Lovely. Of course, it didn't stop him from playing all 90 minutes.
Dempsey could wear a protective mask on Sunday as the USA look to move to 2-0 in the group stages, but no decision has been made on that just yet.
