Suarez clowns England

So England are really bad at defending. Not to take anything away from Luis Suarez, who is obviously really good at soccer, but what in the actual hell is Phil Jagielka doing?

Rooney finally has a World Cup goal

Wayne Rooney has played a lot of World Cup games and has had a lot of scoring chances, including in this game, but he'd never scored a World Cup goal ... until now. It was just a tap-in, but as the ball rolled to him, everyone still expected him to miss. He did not.

Worth noting: Alvaro Pereira, who got knocked out cold and kept playing anyway, faceplanted during the buildup.

Uruguay defender kneed in the head, keeps playing

Uruguay left back Alvaro Pereira has taken a knee straight to the temple, appeared to be knocked unconscious and was stretchered off the pitch. But just one minute later, he re-entered the game, and he's still playing.

It's impossible to tell if Pereira is actually concussed without examining him, but it would be quite surprising if he isn't. The knee that he took from Raheem Sterling was nasty, and he definitely was not able to walk off the pitch under his own power. Also, just seconds after coming on, he headed the ball clear and made a very hard defensive challenge.

Also worth noting is how thin Uruguay are in defense. Their first choice defense isn't great, and they're currently down two players -- Diego Lugano is injured and Maxi Pereira is suspended. If Pereira can't continue, Uruguay will have to move a midfielder to defense or bring on Jorge Fucile, who simply isn't very good.

Suarez makes it 1-0 Uruguay

England might have been saved by the good buys and great form of Liverpool, but the Reds' biggest star has the Three Lions behind. Uruguay have given up some huge chances to England, but they've struck first, with Luis Suarez scoring on this header.

That's some pretty awful defending from Phil Jagielka, and the England midfield was really slow to close down Nicolas Lodeiro.
