Bosnia 3, Iran 1: Iran eliminated from contention following first World Cup win by Bosnia and Herzegovina
In a group without a clear second-favorite, this seemed to be a good chance for Bosnia and Herzegovina to advance in their first-ever World Cup. It hasn't worked out that way.
In a tournament full of disappointing performances, The Dragons going pointless in their first two matches barely registers. But it's disappointing nonetheless. They'll be playing this game only for pride.
Iran has managed to turn in a couple respectable performances -- a scoreless tie against Nigeria and nearly pulling off a glorious result against Argentina -- and are still harboring hopes of moving on. Team Meli hopes of advancement aren't particularly far-fetched, either, needing to win, Nigeria to lose and overturning a two-goal net deficit. They'll probably want to score at least a pair, though, as the dreaded drawing of lots is a very real possibility if they end up level on points with Nigeria.
