Netherlands vs. Mexico, 2014 World Cup: Kickoff and TV schedule

Laurence Griffiths

Can Mexico finally get by the Round of 16? They face an even tougher opponent than usual in the Netherlands.

For the sixth consecutive time, Mexico are staring down a tough opponent in the World Cup's Round of 16. Given that they got nine points out of a group of death that contained the defending champions, the Netherlands might look like the most intimidating yet, but strong showings by Australia and Chile against the Oranje show that they are not unbeatable.

There are still questions about the fitness of Bruno Martins Indi, who will have to prove he's completely over concussion-like symptoms to play. His absence forced the Netherlands into playing sub-six foot left back Daley Blind as a center back and former striker, now winger Dirk Kuyt as a wingback. If that continues, there's no reason Mexico can't score.

However, the Mexicans will be thin in midfield. Juan Vazquez is suspended, meaning Mexico will have to move Hector Herrera into a more defensive role or start Carlos Salcido -- who spent pre-tournament friendlies at sweeper, not defensive midfield -- in his place.
