When discussing iconic football kits, there are a number of teams that come to mind. From the black-and-white stripes of Newcastle and Juventus, to Celtic''s hoops, to Manchester United's red, there are a number of teams that are instantly recognizable from a distance. One of the teams that should be in the conversation is Pumas de la UNAM, who are famous for wearing the giant Club Pumas logo on their chest for the last 40-odd years.
Pumas' new home kit has been manufactured by Nike with Puma having had the role over the past few years. The new kits are inspired by the one that Pumas wore for the 1976/77 campaign, one that saw the club win their first first Primera Division title which ultimately led to two additional titles as well as three Clausura and one Apertura title.
The home kit is Pumas' identity in perhaps its most simple form. The new shirt is all gold save for the club's massive logo, which takes its rightful spot on the front of the shirt in navy blue. The Nike logo and Banamex sponsor logo are also navy blue. The shirt also features an embossed Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico logo high on the left side of the chest to symbolize the club's connection with the university with a very clean look.
The home kit is completed by all-gold shorts and all-gold socks. The socks feature a navy blue strip that runs the back of the leg.
While the club's primary kit is good, the away kit is even better. It is simply a reverse of the home kit, featuring a navy blue body and gold accents. It's all there, including the UNAM logo on the chest for a stunning dark look that kit nerds everywhere are sure to fall in love with. All of the sponsor logos that are on the front, back, and sleeves of the shirt are also in gold.
The shorts that come with the away kit are also navy blue, as are the socks. The away socks have a gold stripe that runs down the calf.
Speaking about the new kit, Pumas de La UNAM President Jorge Borja Navarrete said:
"It's a pleasure to wear a kit emblazoned with the same design used when we won our first championship. This season, as we celebrate 60 years of the club, the team is focused and ready to add one more title to our existing seven."
