Robin van Persie a doubt for Netherlands' semifinal clash with Argentina

Netherlands and Argentina are set to face off tonight, with only minor glories at stake: the right to play in the 2014 World Cup final. But will Netherlands have to play without one of their biggest stars?

Striker Robin van Persie did not train with the team on Tuesday. He's come down with a stomach bug, one that's also affected defender Daryl Janmaat. As a precaution, Louis van Gaal elected to have him sit out the day's practice.

It's worth remembering that something like seven Germany players were struck with a tummy bug prior to the game against France, and had no trouble seeing them off. Then, of course, Germany dismantled Brazil 7-1.

So perhaps this is simply yet another bit of managerial manipulation from the man that gave us the non-injury goalkeeper switch, and we'll see Holland absolutely destroy Germany in the final. We all bow to you, van Gaal.

Anyway, the Dutch manager says van Persie is almost certain to play against Argentina, so it's probably not something to get too riled up about. No word on Janmaat, however, who seems to be a mere afterthought.
