The Revierderby has had bigger consequences for Borussia Dortmund than Schalke 04 in recent seasons, with the tables turned a bit last season. Dortmund were very comfortably top four without chasing a title, while Schalke were scraping and clawing for a Champions League place, which they ultimately snagged. This year, they're after the same thing.
Schalke's had the much better domestic season and looks like a slight favorite to capture fourth place at the moment, but Dortmund aren't out of it yet. Der BVB have won three matches in a row, pulling them up to 12th. With Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen dropping points in recent matches, Dortmund are now 10 points behind their local rivals and eight behind Bayer.
Dortmund are coming off a Champions League loss this week, though their spirits won't be low after they got an away goal against Juventus. Schalke had midweek off from Champions League after suffering a comfortable defeat at the hands of Real Madrid last week.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been suspended for the last four games, but is available for selection in this match. However, he does have a minor leg injury and it's not certain that he'll start. He played in last Wednesday's match against Madrid, but was substituted after 33 minutes.
The first Revierderby of the season went Schalke's way, with Die Königsblauen grabbing one of their few great results before new manager Roberto Di Matteo showed up. All of the goals in that came came in the first half-hour, with Dortmund losing 2-1 after failing to make up for Joel Matip and Eric Choupo-Moting's early strikes.
Saturday's match is at the Westfalenstadion, but home advantage hasn't mattered much in recent derbies. Schalke drew away last season, but lost at home. Schalke also won at the Westfalenstadion in the 2012-13 season.
