Jay Heaps Is Very Much Learning On The Job

The early returns on Jay Heaps' coaching career have been mixed. In five matches, his team has been horribly outplayed, picked up a huge upset and hung tough with some teams they probably shouldn't have been able to.

On Thursday, the Revs suffered their first "gut-punch" loss under Heaps. Understandably, the first-year coach was a bit upset. But he was the kind of upset you expect to see from a player, not from a coach, which seems to illustrate he might not entirely understand the difference between the two yet.

I'm not sure if there's a history here or what, but Heaps seems just a tad sensitive. His team just lost an early season match at the death, which sucks. But it's not the end of the world by any stretch. During his in-match interview, he got all snippy when he was about trying to contain Fabian Castillo.

Whether Heaps likes it or not, dealing with the media is definitely part of his job. As a former broadcaster himself, you would think that would be the easy part.

Revolution Add French Forward Sène

With New England Revolution training camp in full force, head coach Jay Heaps continues to try and add talent to the roster. On Monday, Revs GM Michael Burns announced that they have obtained French striker Saër Sène on a free transfer from FC Bayern Muchich. Burns believes that there are big things in store for the Sène in the MLS.

"We had the chance to have Saër in camp with us in Arizona and see him interact with our players both on and off the field," General Manager Michael Burns said. "We believe he'll play a valuable role for us this season. He's scored goals consistently with each of his previous clubs, and we believe he has the ability to continue to do so in MLS." (via ESPN)

Sène, 25, has been around since 2005, where he played for FC Etampes, a lower division soccer team in his home country of France. He then moved to Germany, where he played for both SG Sonnenhof Großaspach and Bayern Munich from 2007-2011. While he doesn't have the marketability that New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry or Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham have, but Sène and his 86 career goals in the European soccer market can only help the struggling Revs this season.
