The Philadelphia Union have had plenty of cap room to work with in their first two seasons, but this year is significantly different. Based upon projections by the Brotherly Game, Philadelphia will have a little over $100,000 to spend in excess cap and two roster spots to use it for, if the team chooses to add more players.

The Philadelphia Union lost the first friendly of their preseason trip to Costa Rica, falling 1-0 to current Primera División de Costa Rica leaders - three points clear of Deportivo Saprissa - Municipal Perez Zeledon. A one minute video, uploaded by Costa Rican news outlet Everardo Herrera, shows the Union and Municipal Perez finishing the first half in a scoreless draw, then giving up a second half goal that was the eventual winner.
