Armor Lose But Are Playoff-Bound

The Armor reached yet another milestone this weekend when for the first time they clinched a playoff spot. After a win on Friday, enough tiebreakers fell their way Saturday to push them into the post-season. For a team that had won only 20 of their first 100 games before tying their fortunes to the Nets, it's a big deal.

Smith Hits Game Winner for Armor

Looks like the Armor are emulating their parent club in at least one regard. Jerry Smith beat two defenders and buried the game-winning shot as time expired Friday to propel the Armor to a 98-96 victory over the Iowa Energy before a crowd of nearly 4,000 in Springfield. The game put the Armor within a half game of Iowa in the D-League East

Smith D-League Player of Month

Add another first to the Springfield Armor's string of superlatives this season. Jerry Smith, the Armor's shooting guard, was named D-League Player of the Month for February. It''s the first time any Armor player has been named Player of the Month. Smith has led the Armor to a record eight straight wins.

VIDEO: D-League Dunk Contest Highlights Are Pretty Spectacular

The NBA Development League was never really center stage during the All-Star festivities in Orlando this weekend, but there was a time on Saturday afternoon when everyone should have had their televisions tuned to NBATV. Your's truly wrote over the weekend that he D-League Dunk Contest is essentially the only reason to watch the D-League All-Star game and, thankfully, the highlight video doesn't disappoint.

Horner, Foote Lead Armor Comeback

After being down 10 at the half, the Armor came storming back Monday night to take their eighth straight, beating the Bakersfield Jam, 114-110. The Armor's two big men, 7'0" Jeff Foote and 6'9" Dennis Horner, combined for 42 points --21 apiece-- and 26 boards to lead Springfield. JamesOn Curry also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.

Jerry Smith, the 6'2" point guard that the Nets had up for training camp, has been named D-League player of week.

Armor Continue Hot Guard Play

The Armor got 61 points from its three guards Friday and for the second straight game, blew out the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Nets camp invite Jerry Smith posted his second straight double-double and third of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Smith added 5 assists and 3 steals to his final line. Horner registered a double-double of his own with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Armor Head To D-League Showcase

The Armor goes into the D-League Showcase with an 8-8 record following their loss to the Knicks' D-League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks, in Springfield Saturday. Like their parent club, the Armor shot less than 40% overall. Nets camp invites Jerry Smith and JamesOn Curry led the Armor. Smith has 26 points and 10 rebounds and Curry an increasingly typical 17, 9 and 7 assists.

Missing Players Catching Up With Armor, Who Lose Third Straight

The loss of its three top players to Nets training camp is finally having an effect on the Springfield Armor. They lost Sunday night for the third straight time to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in Indiana by a score of 101-84. The loss knocked the Armor out of first place in the D-League East. The Armor had also lost to the Tulsa 66ers on Saturday.
