Kim Clijsters easily defeated Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in a second round match Thursday to move onto the third round of the 2011 Australian Open. Clijsters defeated Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-3 to advance.
It was the second comfortable win for the Belarusian U.S. Open champion, who defeated Dinara Safina 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.
Clijsters had a 68 percent winning percentage on first and second serve, compared to 62 percent on first for Suarez Navarro and 22 percent on second serve. Clijsters also won more than half of her receiving points (54 percent) and converted an even 50 percent of her break points.
“I was just happy with the way that I played,” Clijsters said. “I tried to play both sides of the court, tried to be aggressive and dictate the points. And it worked.”
