2012 Heineken Open Field Released

The 2012 Heineken Open doesn't begin until Jan. 9, but the field, which includes five top 40 players, was released Tuesday. Headlining the event is world No. 5 David Ferrerer of Spain, who won the event in 2011. The Spaniard will be going for his third Heineken Open title. 

In last week's ATP World Tour Finals, Ferrerer made it to the semifinal round, upsetting World No. 5 Andy Murray and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic along the way.  Ferrerer's season ended when he was defeated in the match in a straight-set domination by Roger Federer 7-5, 6-3.

Joining Ferrerer at the tournament is young American Donald Young. It is Young's first trip to the New Zealand tournament.
