Serena Williams touched her Nike tennis shoes to the hard court for her first practice after a series of health issues kept her from the tennis court. Then, she or an associate tweeted this photo with the accompanying text "Look who I spotted on the court. Her first day back...":
The break obviously hasn't hurt her form. Her last official match was at the All-England Tennis Club, when she won her fourth Wimbledon title.
Tuesday, Williams hit the court in Florida to practice to prepare for her next potential match in the French Open, which starts May 22. However, Williams is likely to miss the event. In February, she was hospitalized for blood clots in her lungs, then was treated for a hematoma. Before that, Williams was out for months with a foot injury that needed to surgeries.
Williams wasn't available for comment, but her agent Jill Smoller said Williams is on the way up.
"I'm not sure she's going to be practicing every day right away; she's going to go out every day as she feels it," Smoller said. "She's still taking it day by day, taking it as it goes, and looking forward to coming back as soon as possible. She's not putting any date on it, just hoping it all stays on the same path."
