No. 3 seed and three-time Grand Slam champ Maria Sharapova sustained some early damage in her 2011 U.S. Open match against Great Britain's 19-year-old Heather Watson, but came back to take the victory and advance, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Sharapova was responsible for a high degree of sloppy play, committing 58 unforced errors and eight double faults while missing 10 break point conversions, while Watson more than held her own.
At one point Donald Trump hollered at Sharapova from the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd, which perhaps explains much of her unsettled play in her tourney opener.
She'll move on to face the winner of Anastasiya Yakimova and Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, with a potential contest against No. 26 Flavia Pennetta waiting in the next round.
