Francesca Schiavone Falls To Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova In 2011 U.S. Open 4th Round

Seventh-ranked Italian Francesca Schiavone fell to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets, advancing the 17th-ranked Russian to the quarterfinals of the 2011 U.S. Open. Schiavone lost 7-5, 3-6, 4-6 in close sets, winning 105 points to Pavlyuchenkova 's 113 points. Schiavone held off match point on deuce twice, before double faulting to hand Pavlyuchenkova another shot at match point. Pavlyuchenkova took advantage sending a strong forehand down the line.

Schiavone struggled a few days earlier as well, barely surviving in the third round against unranked Chanelle Scheepers. Schiavone dropped the first set of the match, and had to make it through a tiebreak in the second set before winning the match 6-3 in the third set.

Pavlyuchenkova will have another tough matchup in the quarterfinals, facing Monday's winner between Serena Williams and 16th-ranked Ana Ivanovic.
