Serena Williams Cruises Past Ana Ivanovic In 2011 U.S. Open 4th Round

Serena Williams was in peak form Monday, beating Ana Ivanovic 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2011 U.S. Open. Williams dispatched Ivanovic on the strength of nine aces in a short one hour and 14 minute match. Williams will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia who upset Italian Francesca Schiavone earlier in the day.

As strong as Williams looked, Ivanovic did plenty to shoot herself in the foot. Ivanovic double faulted eight times, helping Williams cruise into the next round. Otherwise, Ivanovic actually led with 20 winners to 16 for Williams. Wiliams, a three-time U.S. Open champion, is considered by many to be the favorite to win this year's tournament despite entering as the 28th-ranked women's player. She dropped in the rankings after spending nearly a year out with a foot injury.
