After a lengthy delay, the U.S. Open's official web site announced Wednesday evening that the tournament's day session has been canceled due to weather after several hours worth of delays. Here's the notice:
Unfortunately, due to the lingering rain, the day session has been canceled.
Every effort will be made to play tonight's evening session, which will feature the women's quarterfinal matches between Serena Williams and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Samantha Stosur and Vera Zvonareva, Caroline Wozniacki and Andrea Petkovic, and Flavia Pennetta and Angelique Kerber.
Tuesday's delays had appeared to make for a supposedly action-packed Wednesday. So just imagine how great the next day of actual tennis is going to be! It's expected to rain throughout the rest of the week as well, however, so this all might be adding up to form the greatest day of tennis ever once it's all done with.
