Maria Sharapova was never tested in the second round of the 2012 Australian Open as she cruised to an easy straight-sets victory over American Jamie Hampton, 6-0, 6-1. It took Sharapova just a tick over an hour to punch her ticket into the third round of the Australian Open, with Hampton unable to gain any traction during the match.
Sharapova was 6-of-10 on break points while Hampton only had three chances to break her opponent's serve, converting none. Sharapova also finished the match with 23 winniners, almost three times as many as Hampton, who recorded six.
With the win, Sharapova advances to the third round, where she'll face either Canadian Stephanie Dubois or German Angelique Kerber. Sharapova won 73 percent of her first-serve chances, 22-of-30, and 67 percent of her second-serve chances, 6-of-9.
