Petra Kvitova Vs. Sara Errani, Australian Open Women's Quarterfinal

Sara Errani looks to continue a Cinderella run in the 2012 Australian Open in the quarterfinals, but second-seeded Petra Kvitova looms.

Sara Errani will be looking to continue her remarkable run in the 2012 Australian Open in the quarterfinals of the women's singles draw. Unfortunately for her, she will have to do so against second-seeded Petra Kvitova.

Errani has gotten to the quarters thanks to upsets of some of the bigger names in women's tennis. Her own came upon beating No. 29 Nadia Petrova in the second round, but she also took advantage of Sorana Cirstea's defeat of 2011 U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur in the first round by scoring a 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Cirstea in the third round. And Errani thumped 2010 Australian Open semifinalist Zheng Jie in the fourth round, 6-2, 6-1, to secure her first-ever trip to a Grand Slam quarterfinal match.

Kvitova looks poised to end Errani's run. The No. 2 seed — the highest remaining in the women's draw, after Caroline Wozniacki's loss — has dropped just one set, in a second-round match to Carla Suarez Navarro, and crushed Vera Dushevina and Maria Kirilenko in the first and third rounds, respectively, losing two games combined in those two matches. Her fourth-round win over Ana Ivanovic came slightly less easily, at 6-2, 7-6, but Kvitova has the form necessary to win the entire tournament. It would be the Czech player's second Grand Slam singles win, after taking Wimbledon last year.
