Open Sud de France 2012 Preview: Gael Monfils, Tomas Berdych Highlight Montpellier Tournament

Gael Monfils won the Open Sud de France in 2010. Two years later, and after a recent third-round exit from the Australian Open, Monfils is the French tournament's No. 3 seed.

The tournament starts on Monday and ends Sunday, Feb. 2. The indoor hard court tournament is played in Montpellier, France.

Tomas Berdych holds the tournament's No. 1 seed. He is currently ranked No. 7 in the world. Berdych is making his debut in Montpellier. He will be playing for his second title on French soil. His last results were a quarterfinal loss to Nadal at the Australian Open.

Total prize money for this ATP World Tour 250 tournament, which was formerly located in Lyon, France, is €398,250, or roughly $526,000 in U.S. dollars.

Philipp Kohlschreiber and Richard Gasquet are two names to watch for throughout the tournament. Gasquet, currently ranked No. 18, won the Open Sud de France in 2008. He is coming off a fourth-round exit from Melbourne. Kohlschreiber is also coming off a fourth-round exit Down Under. He also made it to the semifinal round in Auckland the week before his start in Melbourne.
