The Associated Press reports that the 2012 Brisbane International has crowned a winner in the women's tournament. Kaia Kanepi picked up her second career WTA title by trouncing Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
In the second set of the final, Kanepi went on a tear early, conceding only a single point to Hanutchova in the first four games. After the tournament, Kanepi had this to say:
"I haven't really realized how well I have played, what I have achieved and who I have beaten,'' said Kanepi, who did not concede a break point in her last two matches. "It doesn't happen too often that I win matches with that score. It was my week.''
In the men's tournament, Andy Murray advanced to the final by defeating Bernard Tomic of Australia 6-3, 6-2. He will play in the final on Sunday against Alexandr Dolgopolov. This is Murray's first tournament under his new coach, eight-time Grand Slam winner Ivan Lendl.
