Seeds No. 1 through No. 8 all advanced in to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Championship -- from No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 2 seeded Roger Federer to No. 4 seeded Andy Murray down to No. 8 seeded Juan Del Potro.
Well, all except one seed advanced.
The American didn't. No. 6-seeded Mardy Fish was beaten by Mikhail Youzhny. The Russian defeated the American in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (0), in an hour and 47 minutes. Both players won 77 percent of points off their first serve, but Youzhny saved 100 percent of his break points, while Fish saved 67 percent.
Now only six top 10 players remain in the tournament, No. 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10.
In his first tournament since the Australian Open, Djokovic continued his quest for his fourth straight title in Dubai. Djokovic was down in the second set but won five straight games to take the match.
From CBS Sports:
"The difference between the top players and maybe the lower-ranked players is actually those moments," Djokovic said of his comeback. "And managing to keep your composure and cope with the pressure and just focus, have an extra focus, mental strength."
Djokovic and Federer both won in straights sets, as did Murray and Del Potro. No. 4-seeded Jo Wilfried-Tsonga and No. 5 Tomas Berdych also won in two sets.
No. 1 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic
No. 3 Andy Murray vs. No. 5 Tomas Berdych
No. 6 Juan Del Potro vs. No. 4 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Mikhail Youzhny vs. No. 3 Roger Federer
