Five thoughts on a spectacular day of action at Wimbledon.

Day 4 at Wimbledon ended with a huge second-round upset as Lukas Rosol defeated No. 2 Rafael Nadal 6-7 (9-11), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
After dropping the first set in a tiebreak, Rosol played the match of his life. He won the second and third sets but it appeared Nadal reclaimed the momentum in the fourth. After a delay to close the roof, though, Rosol came out energized and hit some unbelievable shots to pull off the upset.
Nadal certainly started to get a little frustrated in the third set as it became clear he would have his hands full for the duration of the match. It was tense at times, with Nadal complaining that Rosol was making a "weird breathing noise," according to ESPN's John McEnroe. Rosol was waving his racket around as Nadal prepared to serve, but apparently the audible breathing noise is what led the Spaniard to complain to the chair umpire. In a bit of a testy moment, Nadal bumped into Rosol as he crossed paths with the underdog up a break in the third set.
Nadal charged back in the fourth set, breaking Rosol and emphatically pumping his fist along the baseline. He went on to even the match with a 6-2 fourth-set win before Wimbledon officials decided to close the roof. The process delayed the match for nearly 50 minutes, which stunted Nadal's momentum.
With the roof closed and the lights on, Rosol came charging out of the delay to break Nadal in the first game of the fifth set. Rosol was hitting incredible winners down the line to immediately capture the crowd and take control of the final set. Nadal could not break Rosol's amazing serve, and the Czech finished off the upset with a match-point ace.
This is the earliest exit for Nadal at a major since he lost in the second round at Wimbledon in 2005.
Lukas Rosol, ranked No. 100 in the world, is the lowest-ranked player to defeat Rafael Nadal at a Grand Slam tournament. Amazing.

The second round of play continued on the grass courts on Thursday and featured a big win for American men's player Mardy Fish.
Fish faced English player James Ward in the second round on Thursday and managed to defeat his opponent in five thrilling sets, finally advancing on scores of 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
Fish entered the tournament as the No. 10 seed and is playing in his first Grand Slam event since the Australian Open, in which he was eliminated in the second round. Fish is looking strong following a May 23 procedure to correct his heart arrhythmia.
Fish was unable to compete in the French Open this year, citing fatigue. He is attempting to make a run here in Wimbledon and now joins Andy Roddick and Brian Baker among the Americans who are advancing to the third round.

It's been a good day for Americans so far at Wimbledon, with two men winning their second round matches this afternoon following Serena Williams' victory early in the day. Andy Roddick and Brian Baker both progressed in straight sets on Thursday.
Baker had no problem with Jarkko Nieminen, winning his match 6-0, 6-2, 6-4. He finished with just eight unforced errors and was not broken in the match. Roddick was tested a bit more by Bjorn Phau, who pushed him to a tiebreak in the second set, but he still won comfortably, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Crowd favorite Andy Murray also advanced to the third round, defeating Croatian Ivo Karlovic 7-5, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6. Both players won more than 80 percent of points on their big first serves, but Karlovic couldn't overcome his 42 unforced errors to Murray's eight.

Day 4 at Wimbledon is underway, and some big names, such as Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and a pair of Americans in Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish, are currently out on the courts, but first, let's cover some of the matches that have already wrapped up.
No. 7 David Ferrer took on Kenny De Schepper, a 6'8 lefty Frenchman. De Schepper troubled the Spaniard at first, pushing the first set into a tiebreak, but Ferrer dominated the tiebreak and didn't struggle at all after that, winning 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, 6-4. He'll go on to face the winner of Roddick's match with Bjorn Phau.
On the women's side, No. 14 Ana Ivanovic was pushed to a second set tiebreaker before defeating Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). The Serbian will face No. 22 Julia Georges in the third round.

Day four at Wimbledon is underway, and for the most part, nothing surprising is happening through Thursday's second-round matches.
Maria Sharapova was given a little bit of a scare by Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova, as both of the first two sets needed to go to tiebreakers in a match suspended from Day 3. Sharapova survived five set points in the first set to avoid losing her first set in five career matches against Pironkova and won the tiebreak, but Pironkova forced another tiebreak in the second set and won, 7-3. However, the world's No. 1 female player bounced back and put up a bagel, winning the match 7-6 (7-3) 6-7 (3-7) 6-0. She'll face Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh in the third round.
Serena Williams took the court against the Hungarian Melinda Czink, and didn't really struggle, winning 6-1, 6-4. She'll face No. 25 Jie Zheng in her third round matchup. Elsewhere on the women's bracket, Sara Errani also had a pretty easy time advancing to the third round, eliminating Britain's Anne Keothavong.
On the men's side, Gilles Simon probably turned some heads yesterday with his assertion that male players deserved more prize money than female players.
Simon told reporters at Wimbledon in French that he thinks "men's tennis is ahead of women's tennis" and "men spend twice as long on court as women do at Grand Slams."
He also said men "provide a more attractive show" in their matches.
In a delicious twist of fate, Simon spent just about as long as female players on the court at Wimbledon Thursday as he lost his second-round matchup: the No. 13 player in the world fell in straight sets to the unranked Belgian player Xavier Malisse, who won 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Nice that he's willing to stand up for his fellow male players who actually stand a chance of winning, I suppose..
