Maria Sharapova has won every Grand Slam singles title except for the French Open. Her shot at taking home hardware from Roland Garros has never been better than in the 2012 French Open, and she has a shot to advance to the final on Thursday.
No. 2 Sharapova will face No. 4 Petra Kvitova in the day's second semifinal, and will look to continue her dominant play in the match. Sharapova has dropped just one set so far in the Open, to Klara Zakopalova, and has blitzed her other four opponents in straight sets while dropping no more than five games in a two-setter.
The top half of the women's draw had a bit more drama, leaving No. 6 Samantha Stosur and No. 21 Sara Errani still standing. While Stosur has been to the French Open semis before, in 2009, Errani will be playing in her first Grand Slam semifinal, and had never even made it to the quarterfinal round of a major before reaching the quarters of the 2012 Australian Open.
ESPN2 will have coverage of the women's semifinals from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern.
