The 2012 BB&T Atlanta Open continued Wednesday with second-round action. Three of the top five seeds were on the court, including No. 4 seed Andy Roddick.
Roddick advanced to the third round with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Nicolas Mahut. Roddick has now won eight of his last nine matches with his only loss coming to David Ferrer in the third round of Wimbledon. While Roddick advanced, No. 5 seed Kevin Anderson fell. Anderson lost to Michael Russell 7-6, 4-6, 4-6.
After a delay, No. 8 seed Go Soeda was also able to advance to the third round by defeating Igor Kunitsyn 6-1, 7-5. It was the second straight match Soeda won despite a delay. No. 3 seed Kei Nishikori needed three sets to get by Ricardas Berankis, winning 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
