Maria Sharapova entered Wimbledon as the top-ranked tennis player in the world. Russia's finest won't be able to win her fourth singles title of 2012 at the All England Club, however, after taking a tumble on "Manic" Monday morning.
Sharapova fell in straight sets to Germany's Sabine Lisicki, allowing the latter to advance to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Lisicki was the No. 15 seed in the tournament, and while SB Nation's own Bill Connelly expected Sharapova to advance, he also warned that Lisicki would be a challenge.
One Sentence: Both players have improved since Sharapova beat Lisicki in straight sets last year at Wimbledon.
Prediction: Sharapova in three.
Lisicki now awaits the winner of the match between Angelique Kerber and Kim Clijsters. Kerber, entering the tournament as the eight seed, won the first set, 6-1, in her bid to advance to the quarterfinals.
