Wimbledon Women's Final Scores And Results: Serena Williams Overcomes Health Issues For 14th Grand Slam Singles Title

Serena Williams used powerful serves and big winners to beat Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets to capture the Wimbledon singles championship Saturday (she'll team with sister Venus to try for the doubles championship later in the evening), and reflected on the long road it took to win her 14th Grand Slam singles title, and first since she won at the All-England Club in 2010. From the Sports Illustrated story on her win:

"I can't even describe it. I almost didn't make it," Williams said. "A few years ago, you know, I was in the hospital, and now I'm here again. It's so worth it, and I'm so happy."

Shortly after winning [in 2010], Williams cut her feet on glass at a restaurant, leading to a series of health problems, including being hospitalized for clots in her lungs.

"I never dreamt of being here again, being so down," Williams said. "Never give up. You can continue."

It was quite the turn of events since just a month ago, she was bounced from the French Open in the first round, the first time that happened at a major since she just started on tour as a teenager. Now, she has to be viewed as among the favorites in the Olympics later this month — which also happen to be held at the All-England club.
