2012 U.S. Open Tennis Schedule And TV Coverage: Andy Roddick Returns to Action Following Retirement Announcement

On Thursday, Andy Roddick announced he will retire from tennis after the U.S. Open. On Friday, he plays to keep his career going a couple of days longer. The No. 20-ranked Roddick can advance to the third round with a win over Bernard Tomic of Australia Friday night. Roddick and Tomic are scheduled to start at 7:00 ET on Arthur Ashe Court with television coverage on ESPN2.

In other important matches, No. 2-ranked Novak Djokovic faces unranked Rogerio Dutra Silva at approximately 1:00 ET Friday. No. 4-ranked David Ferrer will play Igor Sijsling of The Netherlands at 11:00 ET. No. 7-ranked Juan Martin del Potro draws American Ryan Harrison at approximately 1:00 ET. Ninth-ranked American John Isner follows del Potro, taking on Jarkko Nieminen on Louis Armstrong Court in the early afternoon.

The best Friday matchups are in the women's draw, where No. 7-ranked Samantha Stosur faces No. 31-ranked Varvara Lepchenko at 11:00 ET Friday morning. Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka will play No. 28-ranked Jie Zheng in Friday's late match. In the other second-round match between ranked players, No. 15-ranked Lucie Safarova and No. 19-ranked Nadia Petrova face off at approximately 3:00 ET. Maria Sharapova, the third-ranked player in the tournament, takes on American youngster Mallory Burdette, set to begin following the Djokovic-Silva match.

Elsewhere, the Williams sisters play Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Kristina Mladenovic, the No. 15-ranked women's doubles team in the Open. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 ET.
