Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro's fourth-round match at the 2012 U.S. Open has been temporarily suspended on Tuesday night due to rain. The skies opened up in the midst of a first-set tiebreak, with the 20th-seeded Roddick holding a 1-to-0 lead over the seventh-seeded del Potro. The set moved into a tiebreak after each player won six games.
The current forecast calls for periods of rain over the next one to two hours as a decision is made whether to resume play, according to the U.S. Open's Twitter handle.
Update: Play has been suspended for the night and will resume Wednesday.
Also on the men's side, Novak Djokovic's match with Stanislas Wawrinka was stopped with the second-ranked Djokovic up two games to none in the first set. Eighth-ranked Janko Tipsarevic is involved in the one other men's match stopped on Tuesday night. Tipsarevic is up five games to two over Philipp Kohlschreiber.
On the women's side, third-seeded Maria Sharapova had her match stopped with her down four games to none to 11th-ranked Marion Bartoli during the day session. That match has officially been suspended until tomorrow. If Sharapova is upset, she'd be the second top-four seed knocked out on the women's side.
