With a spot in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open on the line, No. 4 David Ferrer took care of No. 13 Richard Gasquet in three sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing Meadow, N.Y. to advance in Tuesday's round of 16.

An hour and 11 minute second set was the highlight of the match, as the Spaniard and Frenchman traded break points and winners all the way into a tiebreaker. Ferrer and Gasquet won more than 60 percent of their first serve points during the match and blasted more than a dozen winners in the set alone.

But when the tiebreaker came, it was all Ferrer, who won seven of the nine points to take a commanding two-set lead that he would not relinquish.

In a more manageable 51-minute set, Ferrer closed out the match against Gasquet, 6-4, using his serve to end the match decisively. Ferrer won nearly 75 percent of the points he served and was only faced with one break point.
