Andy Murray advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 U.S. Open on Wednesday, defeating No. 12 Marin Cilic of Croatia in four sets, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 6-0.
Murray, the No. 3 seed in Flushing Meadows, battled back after losing the first set, winning a crucial second-set tiebreaker to level the match at a set apiece. From that point on, it was all Murray, as he won the next two sets with ease to advance to the semifinals.
Murray was far more dominant than Cilic on Wednesday, serving 11 aces to Cilic's two and notching 39 winners to Cilic's 32. Cilic committed a whopping 50 unforced errors in four sets, 19 more than Murray.
With the win, Murray has held up his end of the bargain to set up a semifinal match against top-seeded Roger Federer. The two squared off one month ago in the gold-medal match of the men's singles tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, with Murray defeating Federer in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 -- at Wimbledon, no less.
Federer will take on No. 6 Tomas Berdych on Wednesday night.
