The Serbian won his 21st-straight match in Melbourne, defeating Andy Murray in four sets.

Novak Djokovic earned his third consecutive Australian Open title on Sunday, defeating Andy Murray 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-2 in Melbourne. The Serbian is the first man to win three consecutive Australian Open titles in the open era.

The two played each other extremely close for the first two sets, with Murray taking the first one before Djokovic took the next three. The early sets were so closely contested that Djokovic was not able to break serve until early in the third set.

The win gives Djokovic six major titles to his credit. Murray, meanwhile, has now lost in the final of the Australian Open three times. The match was over in a fairly tidy three hours, 40 minutes, which is a snap compared to the 2012 final -- a five hour, 53 minute marathon victory for Djokovic over Rafael Nadal. The win also further cements Djokovic as the world's top male tennis player, emerging as Roger Federer ages and Nadal struggles with injury issues.
