The No. 2-ranked women's player is out early in Paris.

No. 2 seed Li Na has been knocked out of the 2014 French Open in her first match, losing to unranked player Kristina Mladenovic of France, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 on Tuesday. Li is a former French Open winner, and won the 2014 Australian Open in January. With the loss, the men's and women's winners of the Aussie Open are now both out of the tournament. Stanislas Wawrinka lost his opener on Monday.

The 21-year-old Mladenovic, ranked No. 76 in the world, has two Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles, but has not had that sort of success in singles play. This is her first victory over a top-five player.

Li, China's top player, lost in the second round at Roland Garros in 2013, but made the fourth round in 2012 following her 2011 championship. She has two career Grand Slam singles titles.
