French Open results 2014: Andy Murray, David Ferrer victorious on Day 3

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

There were some big upsets on Day 3 at the French Open, but many of the top seeds held as well.

Rain was not a big factor on Day 3 at the 2014 French Open, but the theme of upsets from previous days was still present. We already took a look at some of the big ones, such as women's No. 2 seed Li Na losing to Kristina Mladenovic and men's No. 11 Grigor Dimitrov falling to Ivo Karlovic. It's important to bear in mind, however, that plenty of top seeds were in action and also did not lose Tuesday.

That includes men's No. 7 seed Andy Murray. He struggled slightly with unseeded Andrey Golubev, but managed to take him down in four sets to advance into the second round. Richard Gasquet, the No. 12 seed, also advanced after a tough opening round draw against Bernard Tomic.

Also victorious for the men: No. 5 David Ferrer (over unseeded Igor Sijsling), No. 23 Gael Monfils (over unseeded Victor Hanescu) and No. 24 Fernando Verdasco (over unseeded Michael Llodra).

On the women's side, No. 4 seed Simona Halep was victorious over Alisa Kleybanova, taking her out in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. No. 11 Ana Ivanovic, No. 15 Sloane Stephens and No. 13 Caroline Wozniacki were also among those victorious over unseeded competition.
