French Open 2014: Matches and TV schedule for Wednesday at Roland Garros

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams will be in action for Day 4 of the 2014 French Open.

The second round of the 2014 French Open will begin Wednesday, and there are plenty of top seeds still in play. There will be fewer big names than usual after an upset-filled first round -- players like Li Na and Stanislas Wawrinka fell to unseeded opponents -- but Day 4 will feature one of the sport's biggest names when men's No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic takes on unseeded Jeremy Chardy.

Djokovic handled his Round 1 opponent, Joao Sousa, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. Chardy also handily won his first match, besting Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver, 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. Later, No. 4 Roger Federer will take on unseeded Diego Sebastian Schwartzman. No. 6 Tomas Berdych and No. 13 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will also be playing.

For the women, No. 1 seed Serena Williams will be taking on Garbine Muguruza. Williams benefited greatly from Tuesday's proceedings.  No. 2 Li Na, perhaps her top competition in the tournament, was eliminated. Williams now has a clearer path to a title, but there's still plenty of tennis left to play. No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska, No. 7 Maria Sharapova and No. 20 Alizé Cornet will also be in action for the women.

Television coverage of the day's matches will begin at 5 a.m. ET on ESPN2. That coverage will run through 10 a.m., at which point you'll have to tune in to the Tennis Channel, which will have coverage until 7 p.m. Matches get  underway at 5 a.m., which is 11 a.m. in France.

The official site of Roland Garros will also have live coverage.
