Day 7 at the 2014 French Open is just about in the books, and it was plenty exciting. Men's No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal once again cruised to victory, this time taking down unseeded Leonardo Mayer in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2. He moved to the fourth round, where he'll take on yet another unseeded opponent in Dusan Lajovic. A matchup against either No. 5 seed David Ferrer or No. 19 seed Kevin Anderson will await him after that.
Both Ferrer and Anderson were in action on Saturday as well. Ferrer took down No. 32 seed Andreas Seppi in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Anderson was also victorious, but after winning the first set against Ivo Karlovic, 6-3, the match was over. Karlovic retired from that one.
On the women's side, No. 4 seed Simona Halep won her matchup against MariaTeresa Torro-Flor, easily winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Not that the women's bracket needed any further shaking up, but No. 5 seed Petra Kvitova was eliminated by No. 27 Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova took the match in three sets, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 9-7.
Other names who managed to pick up wins on the day include men's No. 23 Gael Monfils and women's No. 15 Sloane Stephens. Men's No. 7 seed Andy Murray was taking on No. 28 Philipp Kohlschreiber late in the day, but play was suspended to be continued on Sunday. Unfortunately, it was a very intense matchup that was into a fifth-set tiebreak at the time it was suspended.
