Wimbledon 2014 scores and results: Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer advance to 3rd round

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Serena Williams were among those victorious on Thursday, advancing into the third round.

The second round at Wimbledon is in the books, and we escaped the day without significant upsets. Thus far, the biggest name to get bounced out early is men's No. 7 seed David Ferrer, who fell on the tournament's third day. On Thursday, top players like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer advanced easily.

Nadal, the second seed for the men, had a slightly tougher time with Lukas Rosol than Federer did with Gilles Muller. Nadal bested Rosol in four sets, 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-4, while Federer, the No. 4 seed, took down Muller in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.

For the women, top seed Serena Williams dominated her opponent, unseeded Chanelle Scheepers, 6-1, 6-1. No. 5 Maria Sharapova made similarly short work of her opponent on the day, unseeded Timea Bacsinszky, 6-2, 6-1. Men's No. 8 seed Milos Raonic was also a winner, taking down American Jack Sock, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Ranked players Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner and Stanislas Wawrinka were victorious on the men's side, as were No. 9 Angelique Kerber and No. 13 Eugenie Bouchard on the women's side.

There are some potentially exciting matchups on the horizon for the quarterfinals if seeding holds up. Nadal is on track to be matched up with Raonic, while No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic could still wind up facing Tomas Berdych, the No. 6 seed. For the women, Williams is on pace to take on Sharapova, which is always a highly anticipated meeting.

Multiple matches were suspended or canceled until Friday due to the weather. Notably, No. 3 Simona Halep's match against Lesia Tsurenko was pushed to Friday. You can find full results for Day 4 here, but we'll list some of the more pertinent matchups below:
