Wimbledon 2014 scores and results: Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray advance, Li Na upset

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Play continued from Wimbledon on Friday and while most of the top seeds advanced, one of the highest-seeded women is headed home early.

After being challenged by Radek Stepanek in the second round, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic returned to dominant form in the third round, advancing by Gilles Simon in three sets. Djokovic was one of a few top seeds to advance without issue and was joined by defending Wimbledon champion Andy Murray. The day wasn't without upsets, however, led by No. 2 women's seed Li Na, who lost in straight sets.

Murray, the No. 3 seed, recorded his third straight three-set victory. He knocked off No. 27 Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the fourth round. He will face No. 20 Kevin Anderson in the fourth round after Anderson knocked off No. 16 Fabio Fognini. Djokovic had a bit more work to do than Murray, but was still able to advance in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. The win sets him up for a fourth-round matchup against No. 14 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. No. 6 Tomas Berdych was the highest-seeded men's singles player to lose. He fell in straight sets -- 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) -- to No. 26 Marin Cilic.

On the women's singles side, Na didn't fare as well. She bowed out in the third round, losing in straight sets to Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova. The match was tightly contested, with both sets going to a tiebreaker. Zahlavova-Strycova advanced 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5). The other top seeds in action fared better with No. 3 Simona Halep, No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska and No. 6 Petra Kvitova advancing. Kvitova was pushed by Venus Williams, but ultimately prevailed 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5. It was not a good day for Americans with Williams, Lauren Davis and Victoria Duval all losing.
