Zenit St. Petersburg vs. AC Milan: Halftime Score 1-2, Milan a bit lucky

Stay connected with SB Nation

Zenit St. Petersburg got off to an awful start at home against Milan, but they're well on their way towards reeling in the Italians and grabbing a result. Milan have one excellent goal, but also another very lucky goal, and they've been bailed out by Christian Abbiati on multiple occasions. Hulk finally found the net in first half stoppage time, which made the score 2-1 in favor of Milan and set the stage for what should be a great second half.

Milan took the lead through Urby Emmanuelson, who bounced a free kick off the top of Zenit's wall. The deflection completely fooled Vyacheslav Malafeev and put Milan in front after 13 minutes. Three minutes later, Stephan El Shaarawy scored a goal that had nothing to do with luck, toasting the Zenit back line before placing a shot past Malafeev from 10 yards.

Between then and the break, Abbiati was forced into three world class saves, and he had to make five in total during the half. At the end of the half, Zenit finally broke through, with Hulk punching in a finish from close range, assisted by a Roman Shirokov ball to the far post.
