Julian Draxler has suffered a suspected fractured forearm in Schalke's Champions League match with Montpellier.
It appears that Schalke may be losing Julian Draxler for an extended period of time. The young midfielder was injured Wednesday night in Schalke's 2-2 draw against Montpellier in the Champions League.
Draxler, 19, was taken to the hospital before the match was concluded with a suspected fractured forearm. Until the severity of the injury is known, it's too early to know exactly how long he'll be out of action.
The injury occurred in the 53rd minute when Montpellier defender Garry Bocaly fouled Draxler from behind in the area. He fell the ground, landed on his arm, and was stepped on by Montpellier goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren.
Draxler had an outstanding game for the time he was on the pitch. He scored Schalke's first goal in the match and drew a penalty on the play when he was injured. Huub Stevens has put a lot of faith in the talented Draxler to start this season and has been rewarded every step of the way.
We will have an update on the injury once it is available.
