Tony Stevens appears set to make Texas A&M pledge

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. -- During the preparations for the 2013 US Army All-American Bowl, to be held on Saturday at the Alamodome and televised on NBC, Orlando (FL) Evans wide receiver Tony Stevens has been telling multiple outlets that he will have three hats on the table when he announces during the game -- those of Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Florida State.

Thing is, two of those schools may already be out of the picture. Stevens hasn't visited Ohio State and there is plenty of talk out there that the Seminoles have moved on.

The 6-4, 175-pound wideout has visited College Station, having taken an official visit there in November, roughly a month after decommitting from Florida State (for the second time).

Stevens said that the Aggies appeal to him in several different ways -- his high school runs the spread offense, so he feels that he would fit well in the Airraid attack employed by head coach Kevin Sumlin, and he also likes the fact that the Aggies now play in the SEC. In fact, before A&M made the move, Stevens didn't even follow Aggie football.

Just another sign of the great difference that changing conferences has had for A&M. Now Sumlin can get into states like Florida and Georgia, the state from which the new head coach secured a commitment from prep wide receiver JaQuay Williams.

And there's also Johnny Football. While Stevens said that he has not been in contact with the Heisman winner, he did say there's nothing like playing with a quarterback who has won that trophy and can keep plays alive with his feet.

In other words, Stevens appears to be an A&M commit in everything but name, as he did acknowledge to SB Nation Recruiting that he has already made his decision, he just hasn't made it public.

If there's one concern for Aggie fans moving forward, it's that Stevens may have some issues qualifying. SB Nation Recruiting's own Bud Elliott believes that Stevens will need a strong finish to his high school academic career to qualify immediately.

A&M also has 34 commits already in the 2013 class, including five wide receivers and several other players who could end up at the position in college, like Sealy (TX) star Ricky Seals-Jones and dynamic athlete Laquvionte Gonzalez, who hails from Cedar Hill (TX).

If (or, more likely, when) Stevens commits, it's possible that the Aggies could part ways with one of those receivers.
