Big Blue View The 53 Future Super Bowl Champions

I didn't do this last year, but I'm doing an early prediction of the 53 man roster now. I might make a new one as training camp and the offseason progress.

Big Blue View Protection: It's Important

The 2011 Offensive Line for the New York Giants was dismal. This is something most Giants fans recognize, and are rather irate with. After all, our OL has the task of keeping one of the best QB's in the NFL upright and safe. Kareem was old, Diehl was awful, and Snee had a down year. Baas had trouble adjusting to a new team and also had problems with injury. Left Guard was a problem, seeing first Diehl, then Boothe, and then Petrus. The Giants gave up 15 more pressures than any OL, and were just as bad in the run game, averaging a lowly 3.5 YPC at the end of the year. The awful running game had a lot to do with the OL not opening up holes and making room for our backs. With a nearly non existent running game, Eli had to do a lot of work himself. The Giants have always been a run first team, and not being able to pound the rock slowed the offense down a lot, and it showed in many games.

So if the line was so bad this year, why didn't Reese go out and fix it? Why did he sit in his fancy war room and wait until the 4th round to grab a lineman? Who does he think he's fooling? Fire up the blimp, JR is awful, right? Well not exactly.

Big Blue View An Offensive Draft

The 2012 NFL draft is over and done with, and now that we don't have the draft to anticipate, it's going to be a long time until real football stuff starts to happen again. While this sucks, it gives us amateurs all sorts of time to analyze the guys we've drafted until real football comes along.

Big Blue View Draft Predictions/Expectations

Here are some of my random thoughts on what we may see in this years draft. Some are of what we'll see league wide, and others are closer to home with what we may see from the Giants.

WARNING: EVERYTHING I SAY COULD END UP BEING 100% WRONG.

Mocking The Draft 2 Round Mock

The Giants won the Super Bowl, and that makes me a happy camper. But now that the season is over, it's draft time. Only trade is the Skins moving up and giving the Rams their 1st, 2nd, and 4th round picks.

Big Blue View Some Advice for Perry

So after that heart break loss to Green Bay, it's time to look at some moves we need to make defensively. Fewell didn't call a terrible game against the Pack, and giving up only 28 points to Discount Double Check Aaron Rodgers and Co. aint all that bad. Also, while I hate to blame the refs for losses, take away some of those bogus P.I calls and if the refs realize that Jennings never had possession of the ball in the endzone, our defense looks that much better.

That being said, there are still improvements to be made, and Perry also has to make sure he doesn't regress into some bad habits.

Big Blue View UNDERRATED.

Around the league, there are many players who are undervalued and under appreciated. These guys aren't the big named players like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Adrian Peterson. These are guys who show up to work, play their position very well, keep their mouths shut, and go unnoticed. There is never an ESPN special on them and usually their names don't show up in the record books, but they are key pieces on their team and are consistently performing. Now here at BBV, it is easily said that you guys know a whole lot about the NY Giants, and their players. You know their names, numbers, age, Date of Birth, favorite breakfast cereal and so on. Some guys that I will mention later won't seem like underrated guys, because to us, they aren't. But these are the guys that when looked at by the "experts" or even other fans that don't get the respect and recognition they deserve.

Big Blue View A Break From Draft & FA Talk

Hey guys, like my title says, this little piece of writing has really nothing to do with the two regular topics of the Draft and Free Agency, but sometimes a break from the norm is nice. I just wanted to say a few words about the sport that has brought us all to BBV and that millions cherish, football.

You see, with the whole CBA deal has had me thinking for a while now about how much I really do love football. I love everything about football, if it were to be taken away, I would be one of the many extremely upset over missing even one year of NFL action. During the off season I have a hard enough time getting through my weekends without kicking back and watching a game, regardless of if it is our Giants or not.  How would I go a WHOLE YEAR without football? The honest answer is I don't know, or idk as some of my friends like to put it.

It wouldn't be all bad, because I currently play football for my school, so the sport I love would still be a huge part of my life, but playing football has me even more confused about this whole CBA thing. When I'm not playing football, I am working out for football next year. How is it that the players in the NFL seem so ready to not play this year? If someone told me that the High School Athletic Association was  prepared to not let us play a season if we didn't cooperate with some new rule they wanted, or wanted us to pay extreme amounts of money to play, I would begin a bank robbing spree to cover the charges. Now am I saying that the players are wrong completely and the owners are right? No I am not, both sides seem extremely greedy and it annoys me to see the great sport of football turn into politics and squabbling over money.

If I could say one thing to either or both sides it would be think of the fans. We are the people who love and devote ourselves to the game, seemingly more than the players do sometimes. How many times have you seen players smiling on the field after a loss and joking around with other guys while you are screaming at the television, spilling beer and nachos, wondering why in the world Tom Quinn and Kevin Gilbride are still employed? It doesn't make sense, we shouldn't care that much, it's not our jobs to play in that game, we have no personal investment in the game, but we still yell and scream and cheer every Sunday when the guys on the screen can't even hear us. That folks is that magic of football. It has the ability to bring us together and cheer for guys we don't know. Football has the ability to make us sacrifice our weekend to watch the games, stay up late to catch the Sunday night game, and do the same thing Monday night. Football is the reason we are all here at BBV discussing drafting needs, who needs to go, who needs to stay, and who we should break the bank for, when our opinions don't make a difference.

Even if only for a year, I would hate to not have football. Hell, even if for the first four games, I would hate not having football because I would know that football SHOULD be going on at that moment. There really isn't any significance to this post except for I am a little sick of draft talk (already) and I felt more like writing this than my English essay. I have never been any good at conclusions to any literary work I do, my English teacher points that out constantly, so that's all from me.

Big Blue View We Can Still Make the Playoffs! But do we want to?

I am sure every New York Giants fan knows that there is still a chance for us to make the playoffs. Green Bay loses to the Chicago Bears and we beat the Skins, and we're in. Sounds like it could happen right? We trounced the Redskins before, and the Bears are a pretty good team. So the Giants making the playoffs is still a perfectly reasonable expectation. But that raises the question, do we want to go to the playoffs?

The automatic answer is yes, of course we want to go to the playoffs. Is there a team that doesn't want to go to the playoffs? If we get in the playoffs that means we have a shot at the Super Bowl and gives us another stat to say when we are saying how many times we've been to the playoffs in the last ten years. Now like all Giants fans I would love if the Giants made the playoffs, but...........have you seen the way we've been playing?

The Giants have, no nice way of saying this, completely and utterly choked. A chance to win the NFC East and make the playoffs by beating the Eagles? Nah lets give the game up with 7 minutes and change left. A chance to score a Wild Card seat and make the playoffs by beating the Packers? Nah lets turn the ball over 6 times and let Aaron Rodgers throw 4 TD's on us. Now I know the Giants didn't go in to these games planning on choking, but it's what they've done, and they've looked terrible doing it. Now that begs the question, do we want to go into the playoffs playing the way we have, and likely extend our season only a game further? Do we want to go into the playoffs and embarrass ourselves by throwing massive amounts of interceptions and fumbling the ball like it was greased up before the game? My personal answer is yes we do, because anything can happen in the NFL and all that underdog crap, but if we did make it, I would be watching the game through my fingers the whole time.

So what do you guys think? I figure you'll all answer the same, but what the heck

Big Blue View You Know You're a BBVer if...

Hey everyone, hope you all are well. I was sitting in school today doing a good job of ignoring the teacher when I realized around this same time last year, I discovered a excellent Giants blog called Big Blue View. This blog has provided me with great information and conversation, so in honor of my first anniversary with BBV, I have compiled a list of things that really make up our community here at the Big Blue View.

  • To start the list, you know you are a BBVer if a poster says that Rhett Bomar can play every position on the field and all you do is laugh and shake your head.
  • You know you're a BBVer if you roll your eyes every time there is a post saying that "Coughlin is on the hot seat this year"
  • You know you're a BBVer if you can admit to disagreeing strongly with the JPP pick on the draft night open thread, and later decided that JPP wasn't such a bad pick after all in another thread. (I am very guilty of this)
  • If you know that Blue Gonz is one of the wisest and most experienced BBVer's of all time
  • If you have happened to drop the phrase "In Reese we trust" at one point or another
  • If you just sigh and shake your head every time there is a post or link saying that the Jets/Cowboys are a sure thing to win the Super Bowl this year
  • If the series "Giants by the Numbers" is one of the best things you have read in a long while.
  • If you've realized that at least a quarter of the screen names on BBV are in some way related to Lawrence Taylor.
  • If there are times during the course of a game that you have posted on an open thread that you want to take the play book away from Gilbride and call the plays yourself.
  • If you have had the "There is only one LT" conversation with any other SB Nation bloggers
  • If you are apart of the Lets pack up Sinorice Moss's bags and put him on a bus to Oakland fan club
  • If you've logged on to BBV during work/school just to make sure you haven't missed anything

Hope you guys enjoyed the list and thanks to everyone for making my BBV experience awesome. Hope this blog keeps running for a long, long time.

Big Blue View Possible Giants Moves

Now it's the middle of July and this is the notorious time of year where nothing happens in the football world. This means that Giants news is minimal and we begin to speculate what our season will look like and maybe even dream of our team making a big move just to shake things up. Well I've been thinking of moves that the Giants have a slim chance of making and decided to post them because we don't have much else to talk about.

The first move I was thinking of is the possibility of trading for Albert Hayensworth. Now I know this isn't likely to happen but it has been in some discussions around BBV. Now I have no idea who or what we would trade for Fat Al but it would be interesting to seehim in a Giants uniform. I know some of you are groaning right now at even the idea of having Albert in our locker room but he is definitely talented (when he wants to be) and he has openly said he would prefer playing in a 4-3. Just a thought.

The next move is probably the most likely to happen, the Giants picking up a veteran CB off cuts or waivers. Ed has pointed out that the Giants currently have only four CB's that are likely to make the 53 man roster. Now we made the mistake of going into the 2009 season with 3 safeties and we really do not want to make the same mistake again with the CB's. I don't know who we would pick up since the cuts haven't really been happening lately, but I would like to see the Giants pick up a solid veteran who could cover better than CC Brown (Sorry had to take a shot at CC for his comments that Ed told us about in another post.) I was thinking a guy like Deon Grant, a solid guy who is preferably a backup but could be a serviceable starter too.

Another move that has a good possibility of happening is us picking up a guy to be a KR/PR. Maybe adding a UDFA who returned kicks in college or maybe a speedy WR who isn't a great receiverbut has the ability to return kicks. All I know is that I don't want one of our starters like Bradshaw or Ross (ugh #31) returning punts or kickoffs and getting seriously injured. And while I don't want anyone getting seriously injured, the Giants really don't need a main player of theirs getting hurt.

My last move I was thinking of is probably unlikely but oh well. I got to thinking about our RB situation and maybe we need another name back there. This would only happen if the coaches thought Brown wasn't healthy enough and Ware or Johnson didn't make the roster. I don't feel confident with just AB and Jacobs because both have suffered injuries recently. No one us sure about Gantrell, Ware, or Brown so maybe we need a reliable veteran back there who would do us some good.

Now all these ideas are just speculations and have no evidence of acctually happening but it's the middle of July as I said earlier and I would like to hear everyones feed back. Also if you have an idea of your own I would love to hear it.

Big Blue View Tom Coughlin

Ok well I have read many posts that pertain to our Head Coach Tom Coughlin. Some BBVer's are done with Coughlin and wish for a guy like Bill Cowher or John Gruden to step in, while others are very content with how our head coaching situation is now.

I am in the second party, and believe that Coughlin has done a great job in NY and should leave when ever he feels fit. He has brought a Super Bowl to us and has saved us from the years under Fassal. Still, the point others make is that he can not control his locker room, which has led to such instances invovling Tiki, Shockey, Plaxico, ect. Also some make the case that with all the talent that the Giants had and have, he sould be able to form that talent into more Super Bowl wins than just the one.

These are the two sides of the coin that have been presented. So which side are you on?

Poll
Do you approve of Tom Coughlin and his accomplishments with the Giants?
Yes, he has done a good job and I want him to coach as long as possible

No, he has not done well handling the players and the talent on his team

Big Blue View Our New Stadium

I was over on Gang Green Nation recently and was reading an interesting post asking who should sponser our stadium. Most of the comments were for the airline Jetblue to sponser the stadium because it had the word Jet, which would be for them, and the word Blue, which would represent us.

I don't like that suggestion because whenever you say Jetblue, you would automatically think of the Jets. I say we just call it The New Medowlands and be done with it. Any other suggestions on who should sponser our stadium?

Big Blue View LT report

Hey everyone I am doing a report on the American Dream and I am a doing it on Lawrence Taylor. Now I know with the recent stories this might not sound all that great but I am going to focus on his earlier years and how he was sucsessful in football and kicking hsi drug habit.

I was hoping that there were some BBV members that could recommend some books, internet sites, or any other research sources that could help me out on this paper. This would also mean that BBV would be put in my work cited page, exciting right? I could use all the help I can get, thanks everyone

Big Blue View Osi Trade?

Ok so I've been thinking about the idea of us trading away our once great DE Osi Umenyiora

What if we gave the Rams Osi and our 2nd round draft pick for their #1 overall draft pick. This way we can take Suh with their pick and maybe if a guy like Mcclain of Spiller falls, we take them with our #15 selection.

This is my first fanpost so maybe this sounds stupid to you guys but i dont know, just some food for thought
