Head Coach Glen Davis of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss., has seen his fair share of Division 1 players come through the school. This year members of his '09 Wolfpack will sign with the likes of Alabama, Southern Miss, LSU, Texas Tech and then some. However, when he talks about standout cornerback, Dequan Menzie, Davis says, "Sure wish I had a few more just like him."

I hope everyone understands that this was a huge pick up. Bama wasn't settling by getting this kid. He is someone who can contribute right away in an area where help is much needed!

I doubt anything ever comes from this but hey it's fun to talk about anyway...This kid wants to play "now", and with all the talented WR's Bama has coming back next year on top of guys like Bowman and others who are waiting for their shot, I don't think this will happen but who I am to say what will or won't happen!

Roll 'Bama Roll Thank You!!!

As I sit here tonight after what could prove to be my last day at work after a couple of tough, tough years, I’ve realized something. The Crimson Tide have always meant a lot to me but watching our beloved team blossom into the team they are today over two of the toughest years of my life have been extra special. I guess you could say they have been my sunshine on a rainy day. I wanted to take this opportunity to send out a great big thank you to the "Bama Nation" for making the last couple of years a lot easier to cope with. I wouldn’t be posting this on here were it not for the fact that I can’t help but think there are others out there that feel the same way. The current economy has affected several of us if not all of us over the last few years, and to be a part of something as special as what’s been taking place in Tuscaloosa over the last couple of years is very exciting. Even if that part is very, very small. So regardless of the outcome Saturday this team is a very big winner in my book. Thanks for everything.

Sincerely,

A very proud Crimson Tide fan!

PS

Go beat the hell out of those Gators!

Roll 'Bama Roll Feelings On McElwain...

Is it just me or does anyone else think Bama would be better served if McElwain would take a job somewhere else at the end of the season? His play calling has been driving me nuts all year and has been questionable to say the least. I read somewhere earlier today where the reason Nick Saban called a timeout right after Auburn did when Bama was on the 4 yard line was because McElwain had called in a running play and Saban wanted to pass. Why in the world would you want to risk putting the game on the shoulders of a kicker without at least allowing your offense a chance to score. Auburn had been shutting down the run all game long and would have had an even easier time doing so in a goal line defense! Did McElwain actually think Bama could punch it in for a TD? Maybe they could have I guess I don't really know either. I'm just glad Saban made the decision he did and changed the play and would be even happier to see McElwain leave at the end of the year. Alright now that I have that off my chest I feel better already...Roll Tide!

Roll 'Bama Roll Is it just me or has ESPN lost their mind?

Call me a hater or what ever you want but I do not want to listen to Kenny Chesney all year long singing on college game day! I understand he's big and has a lot of fans but I would be willing to bet the majority of his fans are young and/or female. Now don't get me wrong, I love woman who like football and my kids are huge fans as well, but couldn't they have gone after someone more like Alan Jackson or Brooks N Dunn...I mean anything besides Kenny Chesney...Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

Roll 'Bama Roll Get ready to watch the Tide offense roll...That's right I said offense!

Will someone please tell me why Alabama’s offense is being questioned and not feared! On the other hand maybe it’s better this way!

Even Rolando McClain fed the media some ‘bits" to chew on. During SEC Media Days on Thursday when McClain was asked who has stood out amongst the young guys this summer during voluntary workouts, and this was his response. "A.J. McCarron," McClain said emphatically. "That guy has a great arm, a great release, and he goes through his reads pretty good, also. Everybody is working hard, but his arm has stood out to me a lot. The way he can throw the ball deep ... He's good."

They then asked him how McElroy looked this summer and this was his response. "Great, it's hard not to be good when you've got great receivers to throw the ball to. Julio Jones don't hurt, you know?" McClain said smiling. "It's hard for us (defensively) because he has so many weapons."

Everyone expects Julio Jones to do well, and even Mark Ingram. But they have concerns regarding our offensive line and people to help relieve some of the pressure off of Jones. What’s surprising to me is that the so called "experts" say our OL will be a big question mark this season while Coach Saban has been quoted as saying, "I've never had a team with this much depth on the offensive line," he said, "and it's going to be solid for a few years."

While Coach Pendry added this, "I hope every team we play is just like everybody in the press who thinks this offensive line could be a liability," said Pendry this spring. "I hope they underestimate us real bad."

For more on our offensive line click here for a great read!

Help for Julio has arrived! He’s actually been there since last year and most who didn’t know him before the A-Day game this year, did afterwards! His name is Marquis Maze and he’s arguably one of the fastest WR in the SEC! He’s a big time playmaker who didn’t see a lot of action last year for various reasons but a big one was his maturity level and mental toughness. He’s made vast improvements in both of those areas since last year and will be a major contributor to this year’s team. I believe by years end Maze will be considered one of the top playmakers in all of college football! I know I’m biased and maybe that’s what it is, but I know he has the potential and I believe the coaching staff is going to utilize it!

Last but not least are the questions concerning our QB situation. Even with McClain’s comment (which I think he was holding back a little) we should not forget that this is the same kid that in High School did not start until his Senior year because the starter was always another kid by the name of Chase Daniel. During that Senior campaign he not only went 16-0 while throwing for 4,646 yards and 56 touchdowns, he also earned Texas 5A Player of the Year. He’s now been learning and growing under Coach Saban and company for the last 2 years and was recruited by a guy who may not be a good head coach but knows a thing or two about quarterbacks in Mike Shula. Think what you want but we’ll be ok with this kid at QB!

With playmakers all over the field (Ingram, Jones, Maze, Richardson, McCoy, and on and on), I have no doubt this will be one of the best offenses Alabama has put on the field in quite some time. Mix all this in with what could be the best defense in the country and I think we might just be on to something here…until next time Roll Tide!

Roll 'Bama Roll Why as Alabama fans we need to develop thicker skin...

As Alabama fans we are going to have to develop thicker skin and quit being so sensitive to criticism. Why? Because we have 3 things working against us from a media stand point. What are they?

1. Nick Saban - For some reason the media wants to hate this guy and the reason is obvious. He makes them all look like idiots when they try and make him look like one. He’s very direct and to the point. Doesn’t have a "chirpy" personality and he’s extremely confident and has the credentials to back it up! Do they hate him for saying he wasn’t going to Alabama and then left to go there? I hope not because every "top coach" in the country does this same thing! Another reason is because he’s the head coach at the University of Alabama. Think about it everyone loved him before he arrived at the Capstone. Which leads me to my second reason…

2. We’re the University of Alabama - This one has been going on for a long time. Why the media and NCAA hate the University of Alabama so bad is beyond me. (I guess it’s the history of success we have.) Every since I was old enough to remember people have always hated Alabama. They’ve called us everything from "cheating rednecks" to "racist rednecks". Yeah we’ve made some mistakes and been caught cheating before, but if you look up the records you will find that Alabama’s not even in the top 20 schools who have committed "major violations". All schools push the envelope it’s just some get caught and some don’t. Considering Alabama walks around under an NCAA magnifying glass and hasn’t been caught anymore than they have tells me we’re actually committing fewer violations than the majority of colleges out there. Oh and before I let this one go for all of you out there who accuse people of Alabama as being racist, if I’m not mistaken that would be called stereo-typing which is not much better than being racist…which most of us are not! No more than anywhere else in the world.

3. The third one is a combination of the first two mixed in with the National Championship that’s heading our way soon! Alabama is on the brink of winning a National Championship. Maybe not this year or next, but everyone who knows anything about college football or follows it at all knows Alabama is going to be at the very least playing for a National Championship and very soon! The fact that it’s the University of Alabama coached by Nick Saban makes people that much more infuriated.

The point I’m trying to make out of all this is that as long as you’re an Alabama fan and Nick Saban’s the coach, the majority of press you read about Alabama is going to be negative, and all we do as fans by taking offense to it is help fuel their stories. The media along with the rest of the country knows that we take our football seriously. Very seriously. So they know that if they want to create a story that will attract a lot of attention and stir a lot of commotion they can always bash on Alabama! We need to develop thicker skin and when we read an article or see a blog that’s attacking our Crimson Tide…just smile post something positive or don’t post anything and just know that as long as they are bashing on the Tide we are heading in the right direction! Until next time have fun, play hard, and most importantly ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!
