Behind the Steel Curtain What Players are you most excited about to watch in Preseason?

Hey guys i just wanted to make a thread about the top 5 players you are excited to watch in Preseason and why? Well Ill go first. Here is the guys im excited to watch.

5. Mike Wallace: Theres no Substitute for speed. Nuff Said.

4. Ryan Mundy: After getting hurt early in the pre-season last year we never really got to see what this kid was made of. He has been practicing with the first team and from reports ppl are saying he looks very good.

3. Stefan Logan: I have always loved Darren Sproles and have longed to see a player like him on the Steelers. Also from reports he has looked very quick and agile and is very similar to sproles (maybe not the same ability but he is still good) I live in Canada so i watch CFL and while he played with the B.C lions i got to see some of his games and he always reminded me of sproles. Remember that the CFL is a much bigger field and players are smaller but very quick.

2. Rashard Mendenhall/Limas Sweed: These two picks excited me so much last year but that faded away through the 08 season. Rashard got hurt early but showed some flashes in that Ravens game. He can do everything and im just excited to see him. Limas Sweed was a beast in college and i think he will take over the game. You could mention his catching skills but if you look at his college highlights he never had trouble. I think it was just him being nervous and thinking to much.

1. Dennis Dixon: Its gotta be this guy b/c of the excitement he brings to the table and the skills he has. His running skill overshadow his throwing skills a lot, i think this can is a very good passing QB and obviously has amazing running ability. In last years preseason he showed very good flashes ( Especially in the Buffalo game in toronto, I was there BTW hehe). Such as his 4 down run, where he ran like 50 yards for a touchdown. He also had a couple a good throws on the last drive of the game. Pumped to see this guy and i hope he wins #2 Qb so we can see him on the field if BB gets hurt.

Honourable Mentions: Frank The Tank, Rookie Corners, Ziggy

What about you guys??

Behind the Steel Curtain The Road to Superbowl 43

I know that its not always good to look back at what you  have accomplished in the past but again i would just like to remind you guys over here how amazing our season last year was. I would say we are very spoiled seeing as we have won 2 superbowls in the last 4 years but it might just come to an end. I know you could say we have a very deep and talented team and im not argueing that at all, on the contrary. I definately think this team can win 2 more championships with ben at the helm with our suffocating defense. But as i was saying we could have a couple off years riddled with injury and team frustration. This could lead to a complete rebuild of our football team. I know many of you have experienced this when our 70's domination of the league was done and we didn't win the Sb for another 25 year. Anyways i just wanted to remind you guys how amazing our season and how memorable, this video im going to show you was OUR Road to Superbowl 43!!!

Well there has been concerns of a growing infection as a result James Will stay with his son in the hospital a couple more days. Hope everything goes well man!!!!

about 3 years ago A546203962b8877l_tiny 2005steelers4life 0 comments

Flying, , according to sources close to James the reason he didn't go to the white house was because of his fear of flight. Even though he has to take flights 7-8 times a year , he becomes very ancy and touchy when he is flying according to sources. Also this explains a lot and why James didn't go in 06 either. Maybe this is true maybe its not but im just writing what i heard. Also his mother said that during College it was very hard because his mom would have to drive him to his games because of this fear. This also made the transition to the NFL very hard.

So there it is, Now we know that SILVERBACK is afriad of something hehe.

Behind the Steel Curtain The Steelers 2009 53 man Roster (my Opinion)

Well guy im going to give this a shot, and i will get to see how accurate this is on gameday. Here it goes.

Offense:

QB: Ben Roethlisberger, Dennis Dixon, Charlie Batch

Yep the #1 spot is a lock, but i think there will be a very nice competiton during training camp for the #2 spot.... I think that Dennis will win the spot because of his playmaking ability and he is very athletic. Also Charlie is has almost no mobilty and if you put him behind our o-line he is going to get smacked around like a ragdoll, this will also tempt the defense to blitz right up the gut... in my opinion this is currently the major weak point of our o-line. Putting Dennis at #2 also allows us to bring him into the game in wildcat formation and using him as a slash player. Theres my thoughts on the QB situtation.

RB: Willie Parker, Rashard Mendenhall, Melwelde Moore

The Rb situation will be an interesting one this year.... I think that if Willie can stay healthy this year he will maintain the starting spot even though there is a 1st round pick in the wings.... If willie gets injured again this year (god forbid) then i think Rashard will step in and be very productive. Also we have Melwelde, a very reliable hard working guy that will be our 3rd down back, our best catching guy out of the backfield also. Theres my thoughts on the RB situation.

FB/HB: Frank Summers, Sean Mchugh

Well i am estatic about the Frank the Tank Summers selection and i think he will immediately make an impact. I think that Frank will step in to that short-yardage situational back and be very impressive. I also think that we will use him at ends of games to beat the defense up and be a bruiser. If you noticed, Carey Davis is not on the roster, well i think its the end of the road for him. I think that he is an average blocker at best and can do anything will the ball in his hands, even though he was a decent ST player ,, i think that Frank can take his spot and play good special teams also (if you look at the video of him on youtube you will see what i mean hehehehe). I Also have Sean Mchugh at Fb/Hb because of his good blocking abiltiy. Theres my thoughts on the RB/HB situation.

TE: Health Miller, Matt Spaeth

Well Health Miller in my opinion is probably the most complete TE in the league, great blocker and very good Pass catcher if you actually throw him the ball :P. So the #1 is a definate lock. I think that Matt Speath is a very below average blocker and at best and average catching TE. I think if Matt can work on his technique and study hard he can improve. I think Matt will have to be on the lookout for DJ Johnson our 7th round pick because of his very good blocking ability. Also seeing as we barely run any I-form sets , the TE blocks are very important. Theres my thoughts on the TE situation.

WR: Hines Ward, Holmes, Shaun Mcdonald, Limas Sweed, Mike Wallace

I think that the #1, and #2 spots are a lock, i think that Hines will go us another solid season (about 85 rec, 1000-1200 yrds) and this will be Santonio's real coming out party. I expect i big big season with about 1100 and will be OUR playmaker (just stay of the weed buddy). The very intruging thing bout the Wr situation the the #3 and #4 spots, i think Shaun will be a very solid target (poor mans wes Welker) and will hold that #3 spot. I think that Limas will improve this year but will not be ready to take hold of that spot and he will get it next year. Now i think Mike Wallace will be our KR from day one and instantly give us an upgrade from our 240 lbs backs last year (AKA Gary Russell/Carey Davis) and hopefully can get on the field and make big plays with his shear 4.28 SPEED.

LT: Max Starks, Jason Capizzi

Dont got much to say about the Left Tackle situation but Max will win the job seeing we have no guys to overtake the job and he is making a whopping 8.75 million dollars a year...Damn.

LG: Chris Kemoetu, Trai Essex

I think that Chris is going to improve a lot this year and try to help us forget about Alan faneca, we gave him a pretty juicy contract and i hope he repays us with a solid season. For trai i think he can pretty much play all around the o-line and can be plugged in for any spot when needed.

C: Justin Hartwig, AQ Shipley

Well Justin was probably our best O-lineman and there is no doubt if he will win the job or not, and dont be mistaken by his 8 and half sacks allowed last year. The interesting guy to watch is AQ, i think that this guy will be the backup centre and will open a lot of eyes during pre-season and training camp. This guy just knows the game and will show everybody why he was the best centre in college last year and why he deserved to be picked higher. In my opinion AQ will be starting in 2010 and Hartwig wont be resigned.

RG: Craig Urbik, Darniel Stapleton

This is going to be the most interesting position battle to watch in the pre-season, i think that in the end Craig will end up with the starting role and will have a solid rookie season. Darniel will be the reliable backup.

RT: Willie Colon, Tony Hills

Willie will win the spot beccause of his experience and unfortunelty will be our starting right tackle. I am very hopeful that Hills can strive to be our starter in 2010 and will work hard to reach that goal. I hope that Colon can try to listen more to Ben in the huddle so he doesn't false start every game.

Defense:

LE: Aaron Smith, Travis Kirschke, Evander "Ziggy" Hood

Aaron Smith continues to be the most underrated player on our defense and is a great player with a lot of heart. We found this out when we lost him in the 07 season and when he played even though his kid was very sick. Travis Kirschke continues to be a solid backup and can start a couple games when needed, he just posted the best season of his career and i expect him to play backup to both Left end and right end. I think that we will put in Ziggy on certain passing downs because of his pass rushing ability and his abilty to crash the pocket.

DT: Casey Hampton, Chris Hoke

Casey is the one of the most important parts of our defense IMO because of his ability to bring in double teams and allow the LB to run freely behind him. Even though his production is decreasing each year he is still one of the best defense tackles in the league. Chris Hoke is an awesome backup and could defineatly start for most teams in this league, Casey is due to miss a couple games this season and Chris always plays very well in his absense (in the 2004 season and this past season).

RE: Brett Kiesel, Travis Kirschke, Evander "Ziggy" Hood

Brett will play as the our starting defensive end and will play like his usual self. For the other postitons just look above, at the LE.

ROLB: James Harrison, Bruce Davis, Andre Frazier

James Harrison will continue to tear this league apart and i have a feeling he will have a better 09 season racking up about 20 sacks, not much more to say. Bruce Davis will become a very good special teams player and will become a reliable backup and will show the promise when we picked him in the 3rd round. Frazier will stay as our ST Captain and wont see the field much this year.

MLB: James Farrior, Lawrence Timmons, Keyanor Fox, Donovan Woods

James Farrior will stay himself racking up about 100 tackles and somehow will be a probowl caliber even though he is an "OLD" guy in NFL terms. Lawrence Timmons is going to explode and will make us forget very veryyy quickly about the loss of Larry Foote and will be one of the most athletic linebackers we have had in years, hes just going to being a flat out playmaker. Keyanor Fox was a great additon last year and i love that we resigned him, anyways i think he will be a reliable backup and if you look at his stats in KC when he started he player very well , will about 8-10 tackles a game on a very bad defense. Nothing much to say on Donovan Woods, but i hope he doesn';t get hurt again.

LOLB: Lamarr Woodley, Arnold Harrison, Patrick Bailey

When people double-team deebo , woodley is unstoppable and vise-versa. There will be just no way to block this duo and we will continue our reputation as BLITZBURGH, also if teams concentrate to much on the outside,  we have one of the best blitzing Inside linebackers in the NFL in Lawrence timmons. Anyways not much more to say, dont no much about the other two guys, but Bailey was one of our top 3 special teamers.

CB: Ike Taylor, William Gay, Deshea Townsend, Keewan Ratliff, Joe Burnett

Ike Taylor will continue to be one of the shutdown corners in this league and if he can catch some balls this year , other people will notice this. I think that William Gay will have an awesome year and will show people why we didn't resign Bryant Mcfadden. Deshea will stay age-less and will win the Nickel Back spot and will keep giving us that veteran presence in the secondary. I think that the 4th spot will be between Keewan Ratliff and Joe Burnett,  I expect that keewan will be on the field more because of his veteran experience and i think Joe will be our starting PR

FS: Ryan Clark, Tyrone Carter

Ryan Clark is also a very underated guy on our defense, i think that he gives WR a lot to think about when they are crossing the middle :P, (ask Wes Welker and Willis Mcgahee) and he is also very very good against the run, watch the giants game from the last season and you will know what i mean (b4 he got hurt). Tyrone Carter will win the backup spot because of his experience and our lack of depth.

SS: Troy Polamalu, Ryan Mundy

Well Troy will continue to be his old-self and will continue being IMO the best safety in the league, He is great against the pass and makes plays with the ball in his hands, he is also one of the best blitzing safetys when we actually blitz him and is awesome against the run. Ryan Mundy will impress people and will be able to fill in if Troy ends up getting hurt sometime ( TROY PLEASE DO THAT THING YOU DID LAST OFF-SEASON, I BELIEVE IT WAS IN CALIFORNIA).

K: Jeff Reed

Spikey will continue to make clutch kicks for our football team and will definetly win us a couple of games. One of the best kickers in the league.

P: Daniel Supelveda

Can't wait to see him on the field for the first time , it was a nightmare when mitch or ernster would go on the field haha. Hopefully he is all healed up and he can stay injury free.

LS: Greg Warren,

Hopefully Greg Warren can stay healthy, thats all i got to say.

Well there it is guys, i hope you enjoy, Any Thoughts??

Nothing much to say, new this was coming for weaks, hopefully this only affects our depth, i think Lawrence timmons is going to explode this year. Any thoughts??

Behind the Steel Curtain Gary Russell Signs with the Bungles.....

Wow...... Damn that kinda sucks , They pounced on him pretty quickly, i thought we would be able to sign him later , like in training camp or something. Anyways i hope we can find i bigg bruiser later or undrafted..... FRANK SUMMERS anyone???

Well this make doesn';t make much sense for them seeing as they have a very similar runing back in Cedric Benson.  Thanks for your contributions this year on Special teams and short yardage offense (MAINLY superbowl touchdown) thanks dude!!!! GO STEELERS

Behind the Steel Curtain Charlie Batch Resigns with the Steelers

Charlie Batch will sign a one-year contract with the Steelers Wednesday, a source close to the quarterback said this evening.

Batch, who is an unrestricted free agent, will earn $745,000 in 2009 plus a $50,000 signing bonus.

His signing comes days after veteran Byron Leftwich signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent. Leftwich was Ben Roethlisberger's backup last year after Batch broke his collar bone in a preseason game.

By: Ed Bouchette from the Post Gazette

Well i thought it was a good move by the Steelers seeing as Lefty signed with the bucs and i personally dont think Dixon is ready to become the backup QB. Even saying that i think that the Steelers should have an Open Competition for the backup QB spot. Batch has shown he can be a reliable 2nd option and i think that it was a solid move. Any Steeler Nation input on the Backup Qb situation?

Behind the Steel Curtain Steelers Offer Byron Leftwich 2 Year Deal

Hey guys i just woke up and saw that the black n gold offered Byron a 2 year deal and he would make 650,000 in 2009 and 755,000 in 2001. Im very pumped about this but sorry guys i dont think it will happen. According to Leftwich he wants to play, and he would have a way better chance playing in Tampa Bay (he met with them yesterday) or maybe in Washington because it doesn't seem that the skins are not convinced that Jason Campbell is there future. He also met with them last Friday. Coming back would make no sense on Byron;s part because of the money but mostly because he would most likely not be playing. But if Big Ben keeps getting hit the way he does, i dont know how much longer he can go without suffering a serious injury that would put Byron at the helm. Anyways hopefully leftwich will decide to come back and we would have GREAT insurance at backup quarterback.

Behind the Steel Curtain Bruce Davis ready for something special....

From this article on Steelers.com

A look at Bruce Davis’ stats from his rookie season last year reveals something that wasn’t easy for the young linebacker. Only five games played and no tackles, not even on special teams. And as far as the other 11 regular season games and three post-season contests, Davis was inactive, not even in uniform.   For the third-round draft pick, a standout while at UCLA, it was quite the adjustment. Sure he knew cracking the starting lineup with LaMarr Woodley and James Harrison ahead of him at outside linebacker was a far reach, but he was hoping for a bit more from his first NFL season.

“It was definitely a learning experience, especially with the guys I played behind, two of the best linebackers in the league,” said Davis. “Really we have four of the best linebackers in the league. It was a chance for me to sit back and learn from the best in the game, which I did.   “While I was going through it, it was kind of tough. I am used to being the guy. It’s a new experience. It’s definitely different than the NCAA. If I was going to have to sit down somewhere and watch, I am glad it was here, especially getting a Super Bowl ring.”

Behind the Steel Curtain Donte Stallworth Career is done... Charged With Manslaughter and DUI

MIAMI -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was charged Wednesday with killing a pedestrian last month while driving drunk.

An arrest warrant charging Stallworth, 28, with DUI manslaughter was filed in Miami in the March 14 accident that killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes. If convicted, Stallworth would face a maximum 15-year prison sentence.

Stallworth's blood-alcohol level after the crash was .126, well above Florida's legal limit of .08, according to results of a blood test. Stallworth also will be charged with DUI, which carries a possible six-month sentence plus fines and community service for first offenders.

Stallworth, who is expected to surrender in court Thursday, released a statement last month saying he was "grief-stricken" over the accident. Prosecutors said they will ask that he be released on $200,000 bail.

A Miami Beach police report said that Reyes was not in a crosswalk on busy MacArthur Causeway when he was struck by the Bentley luxury car driven by Stallworth. The construction crane operator was trying to catch a bus home after finishing his work shift around 7:15 a.m.

The report also quoted Stallworth as saying he flashed his lights at Reyes in an attempted warning and that Stallworth was driving about 50 mph in a 40-mph zone.

An additional police affidavit filed Wednesday said that on the morning of the crash, Stallworth was drinking at a club in the posh Fountainebleau hotel on South Beach. He left to go to a nearby home -- it's not clear if the home was one of Stallworth's three Miami-area properties -- and then headed out to the causeway, where he struck Reyes.

"I hit a man lying in the road," Stallworth told officers arriving to investigate the crash, according to the affidavit. One officer smelled alcohol on Stallworth's breath and said that his eyes appear "bloodshot and watery."

Stallworth's attorney, Christopher Lyons, didn't immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.

Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns before last season, but he was injured for most of the year. He previously played for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints.

I Honestly cant believe this, well i guess thats it for Donte's Career...

Behind the Steel Curtain Next: San Diego Chargers Vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Lets go boys, we will see the San diego chargers 4:30 in Pittsburgh.

The weather will be in the 20's and snow. We will need to run effectively and stop DARREN SPROLES. It doesn't look like LT will play much so that can help us.

Hopefully Ben will be healthy, we know how Big Ben Performed, after he suffered concussions.

It looks like we are as healthy as we have been and hopefully our Run sucess against Cleveland will be as good against the bolts.

GO STEELERS
