Burnt Orange Nation BCS JOURNEY

Comment From Bruce   Texas appears to be gaining momentum and I know they have great athletes that can play with anyone - with more experience. Are they a real threat to OU and Okie State (in Austin) over next couple of weeks?
12:22
Brad Edwards:  First of all, this is a fluid situation, I think the same voters would be more than willing to move Oklahoma back to No. 1. Second, this is irrelevant, because Oklahoma is in the BCS title game if it just goes undefeated.
12:23
Matt Fortuna:  Bruce, I don't think Texas will ever be taken for granted, but I just haven't seen enough from the Horns so far to make the upset pick in either of those games.
12:23
Mark Schlabach:  Texas has gotten better this year on offense. I still don't think they're quite ready for OU or OSU. Can McCoy play that well in a big game in his first season?

Quote from ESPN about Mark Ingram. "Mark Ingram's eye-pooing numbers came against the nation's toughest defenses. Pretty funny.

Burnt Orange Nation I finally watched UT vs TT

So I work every Saturday night and missed the game this week. So maybe I'm late to the party...Regardless I had a few observations.
1. Our Defense played great. I saw aggressive play and tight coverage. The problem was we had 3 dropped INT's and 1 Fatman coverup of a fumble recovery 10 yards from the endzone all in the first quarter. The way I see it we could have easily been up 21-24 pts by half time without the offense doing a thing.
2. Earl Thomas and Sergio Kindle are going to be All-Americans.
3. John Chiles to wr/rb adds yet another playmaker on the field.
4. Colt McCoy is going to figure it out.
5. Jordan Shipley is better at playing football than singing.

Burnt Orange Nation Readmission to UT

Need some help guys.

I am from Louisiana.

I attended UT from 2002-2005. Paid in state tuition because my dad lives in Texas.

Transferred to SELU in Louisiana. Paid in state tuition because my mom lives in LA.

I am now 25 and wanting to return to UT. Can I still get in state tuition? my dad still lives there. I have done this before between 2003-2004 and it automatically put me in as in state since I was in state before. Is this still how it works?

thanks

Burnt Orange Nation Durant gets some help

As most everyone knows Kevin Durant is playing some remarkable ball lately for the OKC Thundery(really that's their name?) Anyway Durant also just got some help acquiring Tyson Chandler from the N.O. Hornets. The 26 year old 7'1" Center is one of the best players in the league when healthy if you don't follow the NBA.

The Thunder won only 13/53 games before the Allstar Break. My question is how many of the 29 remaining games will the Thunder win? Durant needs to learn how to be on a winning team again.

CougCenter Moving to Pullman (help)

Well it's official my wife and I are moving to Pullman. My wife will be starting at WSU in the fall and we know absolutely nothing about the area. We are moving from Baton Rouge, LA; however, I attended school at UTexas.

I thought I would attempt to find some advice on locating an apartment near campus and find a job nearby as well. If you are feeling friendly please steer me in the direction of getting acquainted with WSU. Ready to become a Cougar fan !

Thanks

Burnt Orange Nation Boycott Bowl Game?

Maybe I'm the bratty kid that just can't accept losing on the playground, but I feel I may be justified in feeling like we should support boycotting the Fiesta Bowl bid.

Believe me. I know there is much to gain by winning the Fiesta Bowl; however, how can I be happy knowing that OU is playing for OUR Championship. How can we ever take college football seriously again under these circumstances? I can't.

I know that teams have turned down bids before for reasons such as equal rights for African-American players, but does anyone know of anyone that refused a bid based on the kind of INJUSTICE we have experienced?

I will continue reading posts hear at burntorangenation, but I just can't support college football while robotic beings rule the world(yes that is from Flight of the Conchords)

Burnt Orange Nation Garrett Gilbert moves up

Garrett Gilbert moves up to #6 on ESPN 150 Recruits, up from #15.

Gilbert has 30TD/1INT

ESPN says "the hottest signal-caller in this class, " and "Gilbert could make a push for No. 1 overall QB in the class."

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/columns/story?columnist=luginbill_tom&id=3667035

I knew nothing of the guy until about 10 minutes ago, so I am pretty sure I am behind on how great this kid really is.

The guy sure has alot to live up to; though, following both Vince Young and Colt McCoy.

Lastly, what are the chances he pulls a Ryan Perriloux?

Burnt Orange Nation 2b's Texas/OkSt Preview

OKST DEFENSE

Oklahoma State is averaging 47 pts/game. Impressed?

What if I told you that the defenses that Cowboys have seen are not very good? Would that blow your mind? I didn't think so.

The best defense the Cowboys have faced is Missouri. Anyone remember that time we led Missouri 35-0 and went on to post 21 more with the 3rd string?

OKST OFFENSE

Dez Bryant is capable of blowing it up (212 yards against Baylor), (236 yards against Houston); however, Missouri kept him to 47 yards. How?

Well they doubled him and Davis caught some balls while Hunter ran wild.

So the only question we have is....You guessed it

Can we defend Bryant with single coverage???

Burnt Orange Nation ACL Fest or Texas game

So what gets your pick for Sep. 27 now that ACL Festival and the Texas-Arkansas game are on the same day. I have 4 tickets to the festival that may be up for sale soon. I just love to see Texas demoralize teams from the SEC. I am still hoping for Texas versus LSU/Florida in the BCS Championship.

Burnt Orange Nation 2008 Schedule

If anyone is good at making desktop wallpapers(apparently I am not), It would be pretty cool to have a BON wallpaper with the 2008 football schedule on it so everyone can easily reference all the games and where it will be broadcasted etc. I know many are with me in that we hate missing games and we love anything that has to do with them. Thanks to the #1 fan that comes up with something.

Burnt Orange Nation Worried?

Well needless to say, everyone seems worried about our chances this season. I've seen Mizzu and OU ahead of us and now Tech too. Am I missing something? Last time I checked we were Texas. We have reloaded and developed some young players from last year esp on Defense. I will go ahead and guarantee a spot in the Big 12 Championship. We will smash A&M as well who lost some good players. The schedule is fine. Personally, I think we will be Fiesta Bowling.

Burnt Orange Nation Big 12 #1

So at 9-2 in Conference Play tied with Kansas, I assume that we are #1 in the Big 12 winning the tie breaker. Since we don't play Kansas again, if we win out we will win the Big 12 Regular Season and be the #1 seed in the Big 12 touney?

Also I think we will get a #1 seed even if we were to drop one as long as we win the big 12 which would mean another win over KU.

Just needed to ramble a little this morning.

Burnt Orange Nation UCLA

So i hope UCLA crushes George Washington tonight. They lead early by 10 or so. Would be nice to sneak up on an over confident Bruins team. However, I feel like to keep up with UCLA aggressiveness we will have to make about 20 3's. Hit it DJ.

What is up with Gary Johnson, any word on him?

Burnt Orange Nation Texas leap frogs A&M

After Texas easily won their early tournament, the bball team finds themselves up from #16 to #8 surpassing Texas A&M who sits #9 after winning their tournament as well. Thoughts, Concerns?

How good are we really, best guard play in the country? How will we stack up against big aggressive teams like UCLA?

Burnt Orange Nation Texas wins 117 to 14

In the last 4 games versus OKST, Texas has outscored the cowboys 117-14 in the 2nd Half. Can you imagine what the scores would have looked like if Texas had played this well for the entire game? The average score would have been 58-7.   Long story short, this team scares the bejeezus out of me with their last second heroics. Give me a good blowout any day.

Burnt Orange Nation What happened to Colt McCoy?

How long can we wait around for Colt to get his stuff together. He looked pretty I-AA out there. If he struggles with his throwing power and general play can we expect to see Chiles out there? Not to say, McCoy is done, but maybe it's time to see a dual-quarterback system. McCoy has never recovered from his injuries last year. Tell me I'm wrong

Texas moves up a seed after defeating Texas A&M and barely losing at KU.

Texas is now paired against the winner of the Patriot Conference (Holy Cross)

Of course this is just what Joe Lunardi says so who knows, but I think we will get a 4-seed with a win in the big12 conference tourney.

Burnt Orange Nation 5-seed-espn bracketology

So we moved to a 5-seed in the latest espn bracketology watch. It has us matched up with a scary West Virginia team at #12. This is why people freak out about being a 5-seed.

Also Kansas has moved to a 1-seed. Texas A&M is a 2-seed. TT still 9-seed.

I think we will have a difficult time moving into a 3-4 spot if we don't beat kansas or the big 12 championship tournament. At the same time we may have secured a 5-seed if we win at least 1 game in big 12 tourney.

Burnt Orange Nation Bracketology (Round 1)

In the last 10 years

First Round Trends (qtd. in Bleacherreport)
· 8 seeds have a 21-19 record against 9 seeds
· 7-10 matchups have been split 20 games apiece
· 11 seeds upset 6 seeds 11 times in the past ten years (a 27.5% success rate)
· 12 seeds upset 35.0% of the time (14 times in 40 tries)

  • A 12-5 upset has occurred in every year except 2000
  • Multiple 12-5 upsets occurred in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006
· In 40 attempts, 13 seeds have won 8 times (20.0%)
· 3 seeds are upset by 14 seeds (12.5%)(5/40)
· In the past 10 years (and in all of NCAA history) 15 seeds have won only twice

Last Year:

9 First Round upsets. Including (13 def. 4), (14 def. 3), (11 def. 6) twice, (12 def. 5) twice.

THE IMPORTANT PART

9 Seed: 52.5% chance we lose
8 Seed: 47.5% chance we lose
7 Seed: 50% chance we lose
6 Seed: 27.5% chance we lose
5 Seed: 35% chance we lose
4 Seed: 20% chance we lose
3 Seed: 12.5% chance we lose
2 Seed: 5% chance we lose

Although 11 beat 6 twice last year, this hardly ever happens. We pretty much have to win out and win the Big 12 Championship to get a 3-4 seed. This is looking scary, I think we get a 5,6,7.

We really don't want an 9,8,5,or 7 in that order. based on stats for first round and strength of opponent in 2nd round.

Next rounds statistics

Burnt Orange Nation Texas Tech defeats Texas A&M again

Texas Tech defeats Texas A&M for the second time this season marking Tech's 3rd win over a top 10 opponent (3-0). Unbelievable. Acie Law Tied with a 3, but JJ hits the jumper to win as time expired.

Burnt Orange Nation SIGNING DAY

So I can't stand it anymore, Signing Day is upon us. Of course Texas is amazing at getting everyone signed. So we don't have much to worry about. However, some guys are still deciding and have Texas on their lists. This can be the official-unofficial signing day post.

So Far Texas has 24 guys signed and sits at #4 (just surpassed by USC)

USC gets #1 running back, Joe McKnight, passing on his home state. To note USC gets the top 3 overall recruits all signed.(scout rankings)

Question? why are running backs signing with USC? they signed like 5 Rb's last year 2 of which 5star recruits????? they add 2 more 5star RB, and a 4star. anybody remember emmanuel moody, which will never be heard of again. people need to  learn-pick Texas and you will actually play in a game.

Burnt Orange Nation Best Opponent still to play

So we all thought that Kansas and Texas A&m would be our most difficult games, however both teams were smacked by Texas Tech of all teams. So fluke or is Texas Tech the team to beat? My personal opinion is that all three could beat us by 20 with the way we are playing. I mean Nebraska should have been dropped by 30 tonight. I am very unsettled about the state of our team.

Burnt Orange Nation Texas Basketball

So am i missing something?

We have the best player in college basketball right now.

Augustin, I think sits 2nd between T.J. Ford and
Daniel Gibson on the list of best points at Texas.(#6 assists)

Abrams is shooting the 3-ball as good as anyone in the country.(#6 3pt.) (70/159)44%

Texas is #3 in scoring Offense.

What we have there is the Phoenix Suns of College Basketball. Please help me understand we can't just blow teams out even if the defense is bad.
