2012 Boston College Football Recruiting: Who Is Left?
[Ed. note -- excellent FanPost, Promoted]
With Mike Strizak's commitment, BC is up to 12 commitments for the 2012 class. Some people may think recruiting is unimportant, but recruiting is to college what the draft and free agency is to the NFL. Today's recruits are tomorrow's starters. After taking a large class last year (23 people), BC is looking at a smaller class this year (somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 people). Let's check out the current commits and which realistic targets are left on the recruiting board.
Recruiting Targets (legitimate targets only):
Wide Receiver
PJ Harris – Harris will visit the Heights for the first time on July 25 and has a high interest in BC. Harris has geographically diverse offers (Wazzou, Iowa State, Duke, South Carolina) but none of the big three Florida schools have offered. Although unlikely, a commitment on that trip is possible. My guess is Harris ends up an Eagle after a few officials.
BC’s chances – 50%
Best guess – BC
Canaan Severin – BC is in the final five for Severin, the top Massachusetts prospect this year. BC was Severin’s first offer and his mom went to BC, so you would think BC would be in good shape. Nevertheless, it looks like BC is at best tied with PSU, UVA, and/or Iowa, and might be trailing one or both. Severin is an important prospect for this year and is looking to take all five officials, so look for his recruitment to extend until after the season.
BC chances – 25%
Best guess – Penn State
Leonte Carroo – one of the big prospects from traditional BC pipeline Don Bosco, Caroo will be deciding next month. Carroo’s final five seems to be made up of Rutgers, Cal, Maryland, Wisconsin and BC. BC trails in this race and would probably need to get another visit to have a real chance. This looks doubtful.
BC’s chances – 10%
Best guess – Rutgers
Offensive Line
Ryan Ward – a consensus four-star guy, Ward is probably the only lineman left from whom BC would accept a commitment, and he is down to a final four of BC, Iowa, Michigan State and Northwestern. Ward is from Illinois, so the Big 10 schools have to be considered the favorites. He did visit BC and is a high school teammate of 2011 commit Dan Lembke, but it does not seem like this will be enough to get him out of the Midwest.
BC chances – 25%
Best guess – Iowa
Defensive Line
Greg Kuhar – Kuhar has a top four of Northwestern, Iowa, Ohio State and BC, with all but OSU having already offered. His brother goes to Northwestern and he has said that they lead, but this was before having visited BC. He just visited about a week ago, although there haven’t been any interviews about how it went. Kuhar is teammates with BC commitment Sam Grant, so that might help.
BC’s chances – 30%
Best guess – Northwestern
Faith Ekakitie – a little bit of a pipe dream, Ekakitie is a consensus four-star defensive end that might grow into a defensive tackle. In his last update in June, Ekakitie listed a group of seven favorite schools (including the likes of PSU, UCLA, and Oregon) and mentioned of the seven, “BC is the school that is recruiting [him] the hardest." I doubt BC ends up in the final group but it’s nice to hear we’re putting in an effort. Also, Ekakitie is Canadian and BC has had good success north of the border recently (four Canadians in the last two classes).
BC’s chances – 10%
Best guess – Penn State
