Rangers fan since 1974, when I was some stupid kid sitting in the bleachers. SABR analysis was non-existent and the only opinions ringing out were my Dad's gut instincts. It took me years of LSB therapy to get over it.
I joined LSB in 2006. Unlike so many others, I never changed my name. This sucks because I spent about 30 seconds considering it. Damn.
LSB is my lens for the MLB. I'm vulnerable to stats and good humor. I like a lot writers here. I enjoy those who are well-spoken, sober, and sitting with perfect posture. Okay...maybe not.

Matt Purke Deadline
Tonight is the deadline for Matt Purke. As everyone knows by now, he's choosing between instant million(s) or Horned Frog Baseball. The plus side of Horned Frog baseball might include beautiful women over bus rides to Bakersfield. The downside might be, obviously, his risk of injury, or the risk that he may not become a higher draft pick? Is this enough words already? Although his mechanics are a bit scary, I hope he signs on.
TCU - TEXAS 6PM
When was the last time TCU was in the College World Series? EXTRA Monday Night Baseball goodness. Will some rubber-armed UT Pitcher throw 200 pitches tonight? Will TCU hit twice as many HR's as UT? Asked about the Longhorns lineup, some Coach said, "They don't scare me, there's only one guy in the lineup that really scares you. That's Preston Clark. He usually sits the bench." (Paraphrasing)
Numbers: BA - Texas .287, TCU .312, HR's: Texas 36, TCU 62. ERA: Texas 2.83, TCU 4.17

Barry Zito?
Zito's numbers: 8-10, 5.08, 86 K's, 60 BB's, 1.47 (WHIP)
This has been discussed some, but while watching Bonds tonight I couldn't help but consider how lucky the Rangers were! It's like the reverse Curse of Chan Ho Park. The best NON-signing we ever did. Thank you Scott Boras! You greedy saint of a man! We offered a measly $100 million, shame on us.
Anyone else feel this way? Are there stats I'm not seeing? Will he bounce back to a solid #1?
Personally, I don't think so.
The Big Dombrowski
Hicks mentioned the other day that he regretfully chose Hart over Dombrowski. Oh well. And that Hart fell apart when the team sucked.
The Tigers have killed-it in the First-Year Player Draft during the past three years. By drafting potentially hard-to-sign prospects like Verlander in 2004, Cameron Maybin in 2005 and left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller last year. These are the names that light up the LSB blog all the time.
AND YET. Few at LSB seemed to be for drafting Porcello? It was right there for the taking, we had the security of Beavan, plus we might have pulled the Big Dombrowski? Picking the best pitcher (on most people's board) at #24?
Where are my Dombrowski people? We were so close!

Danks MLB Debut
Today is the day. John Danks pitches at 1pm Central on WGN. He's going against Johan Santana. Yikes. Today's Austin American Statesman has a nice article discussing his journey to the Show. It also discusses how the MLB does the best job in celebrating how special it is to debut in the Big Leagues. Danks turns 22 one week from today. He said, "It's surreal, but it's starting to sink-in a little more now."
