Die By The Blade a few nice things about our new players

i thought it would be nice to say a few good things about our players new to buffalo organization and i was wondering if anyone else feels the same way about them. to me ville leino looks impossible to knock off the puck one on one and always brings the effort. christian erhoff has a cannon of a shot and in the begining of the season he was throwing some solid hits. i remember the tampa game erhoff caught a guy in the offensive zone with a solid shoulder on shoulder hit that stood the guy up, ofcourse regher's hit on lecavalier overshadowed his hit. erhoff ,in my opinion, has a good combination of speed and size for an offensive dman. which brings me to my favorite of the 3 regher. solid, steady, strong are 3 words that i think of when i think about regher's play. the guy started a new and hopefully continually growing trend in buffalo when he stepped up and caught lecavalier center ice. opposing fowards beware when regher is on the ice, you better keep your head up. regher makes the opposing fowards earn our blueline and when i watch him im amazed at how simply he makes it look. i am very interested to hear everyone's jolly comments about our new friends. happy holidays to you all.

Die By The Blade sabres prospects

after watching a few games from the sabres prospect i have come to these conclusions.

1. luke adam was the best player on the ice and will be a good sabre

2. zach kassian still looks like a good minor league player.  good hands, ok speed, ok position.  for a big guy he loses alot of battles for lose pucks.  he has potential but i would no longer be upset if we used him in a trade to sweeten a deal.

3. corey tropp is a animal.  he plays the way i want kassian to play.  hits, fights, scores and dominates.

4. marcus foligno had some great shifts mixed with some bad shifts. he was invisible for a few shifts on the top line and then bam he would throw a big hit , intercept a pass and score a goal.

5. Brayden mcnabb is a big boy and he is certainly not afraid to throw big hits but the guy is almost a statue out there.  the guy gets burned almost every shift.  waaaaayyy too slow in my opinion.

6. alex biega looks like he's our top defenceman.

7. mark pysyk.... well.... i didnt really notice him much.

8. jerome gauthier-leduc held his own out there.

these are just my opinions from watching them play in the prospect tourney.  i would like to hear what others thought about our prospects.

Die By The Blade Trade deadline Sellers what would it take to move our UFA's

I know the Sabres still have a shot this season so I am not counting them out.  I am just curious what other die hard fans think would be acceptable for selling off our UFA's at the deadline.

Connolly - 4,500,000 cap hit

Rivet- 3,500,00 cap hit

Montador- 1,550,000 cap hit

Grier- 1,500,00

Niedermayer- 1,250,000

Ellis- 625,00

Mccormick- 500,000

1st. who do you think gets offered a contract to come back?

2nd.  what do you think other teams would give up to get these guys?

personally i would like the sabres to bring back mccormick and montador ,if the price is right, and resign ellis to a 2way contract.  i could see us getting a 2nd round pick for connolly, a 5th round pick  and a player swap for rivet or grier.  nothing for niedermayer or ellis.  4th for mccormick and a 3rd and 4th for montador.

Die By The Blade How sabres measure up, over the last 20 years

Looking back on the Buffalo Sabres franchise the last 20 years, we have had some interesting players.  I wanted to start a discussion about what players everyone thinks are the best at specific parts of the game.  let's only keep it within the last 20 years.  Comparing generations is too tough.

1. Best goal scorer

2. Hardest body checker

3. Best passer

4. Toughest Sabre

5. Most overated

6. Most underated

7. Best captain

8. Sabre with the best shot

Die By The Blade kovalchuk rumor

i heard a rumor that the kovalchuk deal got rejected by the NHL, my source told me that it would be announced tommorow morning.  if this is true i will have a new found respect for gary bettman.  i think that that transaction was complete bs.  hopefully the NHL will have their act together in 2012. i just wanted to say about a kovalchuk deal but there is a required 75 word minimum for these posts.

Die By The Blade Awfully Quiet Regier

ok tallender and lydman are gone. time to make a move. is he awake? somebody poke him with a stick.
maybe he got caught up in celebrating canada day and forgot that the free agency starts today. darcy wake up! time to go to work. theres still lombardi, volchankov and corvo left.  hmm i wonder if what darcy meant by the core of the team was tallender and lydman? im honestly shell shocked right now.

Die By The Blade grrr montreal

ive been coveting tonordi for weeks now and montreal scooped him up.  buffalo has alot of defenseman in the minors who will never play a shift of the NHL. everyone thought we should go big center but they dont understand just how desperate we were at defense.  i wanted the sabres to draft tinordi, remember his name, he will be a stud in the NHL. Montreal traded up for him.  atleast we got mark pysyk. so all you draft "experts" that said pick big center at the 23 spot please remember just why that would be a bad move.

Die By The Blade Draft Friday & random ideas

who does everyone want and why?  I want Jared Tinordi because ,usually in every draft, the drop off for defenseman is right around the early 2nd. we dont have a 2nd round pick ,grrrr that torres debacle, so if we go big center at #23 then we still be spending the 4 picks between 68-98 on big fowards.  You wont find a 6'6 good skating, mean, physical, North American defenseman after Early 2nd round  but you will find a 6'2 center all the way throughout the draft. We would have a enormous defenseman that would solidify our defensive corps. with him and myers on the back end we would have a great defensive corps for years to come.  If we take Tinordi at #23 we could use the 4 picks from 68-98 on big centers. if 1 out of 4 of those big centers winds up working out then mission accomplished and we still wind up with a big, good skatind, mean defenseman.  If we draft a big center at the #23 spot i still see us drafting big centers with 2 or 3 of those 4 picks from 68-98, so why bother.

I know alot of people will say that we have an overstock on defense but i think out of all our prospects only 2 are NHL caliber as maybe a 5th 6th or 7th defenseman.  So in my eye's I dont see an overstock but I see a drought of NHL talent at our defensive prospects.  Just because we have alot of defensive prospects doesn't mean we have an overstock.  Most of these guys are not good enough to crack the NHL. At foward prospects, there is alot of guys who are either ready to crack the NHL or are a year or 2 away but have NHL potential talent.

If we draft tinordi, we add alot of size and toughness to buffalo. Tinordi is a Top 5 defenseman in the draft.  Any center that drops to us at the 23 spot would be around the 10th to 15th best.  We get more value out of tinordi, in my opinion.  When people say the sabres lack size its in the top 6 foward spot.  we got Vanek, hect and stafford who have some size but dont use it.  i have previously stated how i want to trade connolly (a player set to be a UFA next season) for Nathan Horton (25 and still under contract).  both have similar #s and have similar contracts. he would be better than any of our Right wingers. adds size to the top 6 and if we miss connolly we can still sign him as a UFA.  he would free up stafford and allow him to drop to the 2nd or 3rd line where he belongs.

Die By The Blade i dont want kaberle

ive been reading alot of post's about the sabres picking up kaberle from toronto. seems to me that most of the post are from fans from toronto. they range from somewhat reasonable to ridiculas. im just gonna throw this out there that even if the trade was just right, i dont want kaberle at all. he's good on the pp but would be a liability on the back end. in general your only on the pp for about 8 mins a game. now out of that 8mins kaberle would be out there for prob 5-6 of them. what about the other 52mins of the game? ive seen post for the sabres to trade connolly (our top 3 foward) straight up for him; all the way to buffalo forking over our 1st round pick, last years 1st (kassian), drew stafford and enroth ( our possible future goalie) for kaberle and a prospect. why would buffalo give up so much for a player that handcuffed the leafs organization into trading him? if we were gonna get him we wouldnt be giving up much. im just glad that i have the confidence in reigher that i know he definately wont be pressured in to making that move. does any sabres fan want to trade within the division again? i think all of paille's goals were against the sabres lol. unless we are really low balling toronto i dont want kaberle. the deal would have to be really one sided for buffalo for me to jump on board.

Die By The Blade Mock draft 2010

Has anyone else been getting excited about the upcomming draft? i'd like to get the fans feedback on who they think the sabres will draft. on a couple of mock draft sites they have the sabres projected to draft jared tinordi. A 6'6 205lb american defenseman who shoots left. he would need to put some meat on his bones and the knock on him is his puck handling skills. in my opinion that would be the ideal draft pick for the sabres picking at the 23 spot.

Die By The Blade hockey dress code

at some point in every sabres fans life, they must have went to a game and saw a buffalo fan wearing a bills jersey. now i want to find out everybody elses input on whether this is something die hard fans should or should not roll their eyes at. do they wear their football jersey's because its a sporting event and they want to wear a jersey? is it better to not wear a jersey at all? what about the guys who wear football jersey's from a town that isnt even playing? i would like to hear what everybody else thinks about this and why do you think they do it.
